    cancelled trip

Perhaps the lack of being able to keep bluefin in Mexican waters might have something to do with it. I don't know. Could be the fishing close to home is getting so good that guys don't want to spend the extra cash on multiple day trips when they could fish close to home. Or it could be issues...

I need help finding this fly

The conehead on that fly is called a cross eyed conehead. As far as the name of that fly... I have no clue. You might have some luck googling conehead flies and look at images with that pattern. If you tie your own flies, you could easily tie a similar pattern with a better action with zonker...

    Go to wahoo lure?

Wow, that's some serious testing that went on with the prototype. Looks like it's proven it's wahoo catching abilities. By any chance is this the JRI Hooacide? And if so, any time frame as to when it will be in production and in a tackle shop near me?

    Go to wahoo lure?

I go back a read about anglers who were going to use them on there next trip and report back with the results on the "Hooker Intruder" replacement the Double "A" Lure, but I have yet to see some solid reports on it's performance on the long range boats. Does anyone have any good info on...

One Man's Trash, is Another Man's Treasure

Yes, it looks like Bo-J. And yes to the resin around green and gold prism. Has a good shape to it and looks like it may have a good swimming action.

One Man's Trash, is Another Man's Treasure

The Lot was $76, of which I recovered $40 this morning on the sale of the Rapalas. So I'm $36 for all of the lures, I say that was a nice score on my part.

One Man's Trash, is Another Man's Treasure

I bid on a Lot of lures over on Ebay and won. The bidding was low and I think I made out like a bandit so to speak. The Lot was composed of various lures, 23 in total. I sold off 10 of those lures earlier this morning to a BD member, mostly composed of Rapalas. I still have all the lures I...

Favorite time of the year and length of trip

The Fall, 8-10 days. The 10 day being the preferred, you just get more opportunities 'cause of the extra days on the water. Plus there is more of a variety of species to be caught in my opinion. If you're not up to the 10 day, the 8 day trip will be fine as well.

Favorite Long Range boats for 8-10 days or longer.

There's a type of fishing trip for everyone. For now I think the fall 10 day trips give me plenty of fishing time and various species to keep things interesting. In the past 20 or so years I have not been fishing the sportboats, but I have been fishing very often. I went from the sportboats to...

Favorite Long Range boats for 8-10 days or longer.

Here's a question as far as types of fish being targeted on the 14-17 day trips. Are the skippers just after big cows? Are the wahoo incidental catches due to the areas being fished and do the boats go after other species of fish? From the looks of most trip reports it's mostly yellowfin tuna...

Favorite Long Range boats for 8-10 days or longer.

I wish it were so easy to just pull the trigger and send a check off to the Intrepid. My lady would be super mad. That amount of money was about what I spent on our family vacation to Maui last year, three of us for 7 days...lol I would have to do some serious rump kissing and then take them...

Favorite Long Range boats for 8-10 days or longer.

My schedule is very flexible, the only time I would not be able to take time from work would be December.... I work for UPS, super busy that time of year and can't schedule vacation during that month. I have six weeks I could play with throughout the year. I want to do a fall trip to try and get...

Favorite Long Range boats for 8-10 days or longer.

On your profile you have the Intrepid. There must be a reason why? That's why I said I'm not set in one particular boat. Trying to get a feel why some would choose one over the other is all.

Favorite Long Range boats for 8-10 days or longer.

I added a few boats I will consider. A buddy of mine suggested the Intrepid. He says it's the APEX of long range boats, his opinion. I like the Excel and the Royal Polaris, but those are the only two long range boats I have fished. I'm not set in my ways where I have to fish on the Excel or...

Jeff, thank you much for the suggestions. It's incredibly helpful in getting my gear together. I'll look into the GF 770XH 7' 60-120. Wai, thanks again for the line suggestions as well. Looks like you are in line with Jeff, with suggestions for the reels.

Planning to go on Long Range boats once again

More than likely leaning towards the Excel. Been on the Royal Polaris twice and once on the Excel. Both boats were very nice with plenty of room to fish and move around. At the time in the early to mid 90's, the Royal Polaris had what I thought was the best crew, while the Excel was nicer and...

Thank you so much for all the helpful information. I will definitely consider the loaner gear from the boat. I do want to buy a few setups of my own to have for some of the local overnight boats as well. Doing some research on some of the reels should take some time. Seems like Seeker and...

Planning to go on Long Range boats once again

I have been out of the sport boat fishing scene for quite a long time. I have long since gotten rid of the majority of my gear, except for a 10' jigstick I couldn't part with. I want to get back on the boats, especially the long range fleet, 8-10 day trips is perfect. I feel like I get more...
