    Seeker TS63XXH & 6455XXH & a huge halibut

Larry I made an error on the guides. These were not the UD guides they were the Alps Heavy HXN guides. These ones were XTCHXNUG specifically. Sorry about that.

    Seeker TS63XXH & 6455XXH & a huge halibut

Thank you. I wrapped the under wraps & than the guide wraps followed by finish. I did use CP before I epoxied. The thread is all size A. I used Gen4 epoxy.

    My biggest halibut yet.

Harpoon and float did the ticket. It was wild watching this fish drag down a 18” buoy. The first harpoon run and the buoy disappeared for over two minutes.

    Seeker TS63XXH & 6455XXH & a huge halibut

Targeting smaller butts. I was expecting some fish in the 20 to 30 pound class. I was a bit surprised to say the least.

    My biggest halibut yet.

Hey guys. I couldn’t help but share a fish I caught last week. I caught her in 90’ of water and according to the tape she went for 205lbs. Caught in Kodiak, AK on a Seeker TS63XXH I built in January on a 16oz GibbsDelta Paddle tail. Thanks for looking.

    Seeker TS63XXH & 6455XXH & a huge halibut

Surprisingly really shallow for a halibut this size. I was in 90’ of water jigging a 16oz Gibbs paddletail on 30lb test braid.

I finished up a pair of Seekers I built this spring for AK halibut and lingcod. I was able to put them to the test this week and thought I’d share. I’m quite proud of them. The blanks are Seeker TS63XXH and a 6455XXH built with Alps components. The halibut tipped the scales at 205lbs and was...

    Kokiak Island, 2020

If you are in search of the giant king salmon that are "flooding the waters of Kodiak" head down to Kodiak Sportsmen Lodge in Old Harbor. They pride them selves on 50lbers every trip. You wont find them that big near town.

    Kokiak Island, 2020

I've lived on Kodiak for four years now and absolutely love it! The Russian River Lodge previously mentioned has shut down in the last year. Fishing in Kodiak all depends on what you are looking for. River fishing or Ocean fishing, as well as DIY or through a Lodge. Hands down the best month of...

    SoCal shops or stops

Hello fellow BD’ers. I’m headed to San Diego for a few weeks and one of my favorite things to do is hit the local shops and stops and talk fishing/rod building. Soak in some local knowledge and meet a few fellow fisherman. I know the rod building and fishing culture is huge down that way and I’m...

Upside down reel seat. Only upside advantages.

That’s an interesting question. I can see the advantages of an upside down reel seat. It’s often funny to see a standard be set and no one questions it.

    Blank cutting question

Saint, long story short yes you can cut the blank, however no one really knows what is going to happen exactly to that blank. Cutting off the tip will change the action by moving the action closer to the tip. (Think fast to extra-fast). Most people will say it’s a safer bet to cut off the butt...

Kayak halibut rods and rainshadow blanks

In Kodiak we don't have to go to far off shore to get into some bigger fish. The biggest they have landed from a kayak was a 120lb'er but never anything larger then that.
  28. Lbwolfe

I can not I am sorry. The only ones I could recommend would be here on Kodiak Island.

Kayak halibut rods and rainshadow blanks

Hey guys! I have a few friends who wants me to build them some kayak rods for Halibut this summer in Kodiak, AK. I have never built a kayak specific rod and I am curious if any of you have. The issues I foresee are having a rod long enough to reach around the front of their kayaks which would...

    Saber, CUI blanks

Good afternoon. I recently traded a few things for a handful of saltwater blanks mostly in the 20-50lb class range. A handful of Seeker E-glass 670's, CUI products division F090BW, and two F080BW as well as a Saber E655HB. All of the blanks except the Saber either had tags on them or were still...

Custom power wrapper parts or manual

I just wanted to say thanks to all of the guys that helped me out with my Custom Power Wrapper. I ended up calling Anglers Workshop and had a new chuck lathe as well as belts sent my way. A little elbow grease and she is up and turning rods.

The motor does indeed work. It’s just the jaws on the chuck the chick itself that has the real corrosion.

Custom power wrapper parts or manual

I’ve got the new belts and the rollers ready to go but I believe I have to replace the lathe chuck. It was fairly rusted and the jaws are far to corroded. I was looking at the alps upgraded chuck. Which model chuck do you have on yours?

    Kodiak, Alaska members?

There are rivers on the road system that do get steelhead runs. Nothing as profound as the Karluk but there are a few. The only issue with road system steelhead is that there is a zero bag limit. Fine by me though. There are plenty of salmon around to eat.
