I usually van camp in the parking lot at wister to avoid the late night drive myself, but I'm thinking maybe hit a spot by the Salton sea if the lots are left open and the cracks heads art out in force. Parking on the side of 111 just seems to risky
Did the open there ,had a high draw and picked poorly w4 was bone dry on both sides still wacker a few flyovers at first light but was slow the rest of the day, they put up a list one showing blind conditions by the check station now,I would suggest checking it to avoid my mistake.
Heading down Sunday night to scout Monday morning then out to shoot some skeet to knock the rust off then before it gets too hot pull the rifles out and put some yardage on it,good luck on the opener to every one!
I called the office at san jacinto last week and they said as far as they knew right now they would be up and running this season. The lottery system on the Web site was still not open to pick dates as of a few days ago.
They have been really active up here in the hills by lake smells ome more last couple months but I dig the sounds of nature and it gives the old ladys on the community fb page something to fret about besides who didn't get there trash bins off the curb by 6pm so go Wylie go!
San jacinto on wens and sat was a blast got 2 teal and a couple coots but a lot of birds moving and a cool place to hunt, lost a couple to the too lies but a good time.sun at wister was a bust too warm too dry too soon fingers crossed for later in the season
Well for me the great coot debate is over, shot a couple at barrett on Sat breasted them out clean all the skin and fat off, little butter and garlic powder seared at high heat real quick and not bad at all,I would be real picky about where I would eat them from but not so bad over all.
Nice job! We didn't do so good at barret, shot a couple coots just to keep the stink of failure off (and if I'm gonna eat a coot this looked like the place to get it from).some of the other blinds did pretty good, looking to redeem our self at San jacinto on wens
Got opening day! Pulled the #13 chip my buddy got#19 so barrett is lined out for the season,a quick thanks to Jason for his quick response with the info for the drawing dates, good luck to everybody now all we need is cold weather up north to get the birds moving
Got the enail today got a draw for san jancinto on the 23rd,and going to the draw for barrett lake on Sat looking to get lucky for opening day if not I'm going run and gun on the canals in the valley. Good luck to everybody!lies and excuses to follow
Just got home from iv seems like the best luck was Calexico and around Holtsville ,opening morning had limits in about 3 hrs but had to work a lot harder today.you really have to look to find anyplace not posted
A lot more fields are posted every year now due to the farmers growing organic so pick where you stop and shoot carefully.pick up your empty shells and don't leave a mess if you clean your birds in the field, respect a farmers field as you would your neighbors front yard
OK as promised top thee reasons my hunt yesterday was not a success 1.the rain kept my glass call too wet to sweet talk that Tom on in,sounded more like a chain smoker with turriets. 2.got lost in fog on the way to our hunt area in the boat and had to relocate right at sun up soon as we figured...
Got the draw to hunt lake southerland tomorrow, hopefully the rain won't show and the birds will.this will be only the second day of hunting at the lake so Im felling optimistic, will post pics tomorrow or lie about why falure wasn't my fault
Was at wister sat and sun , hunted the south end both days and other than the first 20 min on Sat really slow the rest of the time, there is a ton of snows but they are staying waaay high and out of reach,oh well did anybody else have any luck?
My buddy got us 26 for sat and 28 for sunday, truth be told I'm working on a royal flush of unsuccessfully on the old reservation chart, but I guess the next best thing to being lucky is having a buddy who is
Was in imperial valley yesterday kicking the scrub for pheasants and quail with no luck did see a huge Bob cat by the highline canel, I think his belly might be where all the quail are but saw nothing flying to speak of
Having been called an old coot by family and friends for years I think we are getting close to hate speech here and I need a safe space and some counseling to recover from the turn this thread has taken
was on the sa2 about a month ago it was a slower day[about 3 yt per guy]the owner was running the boat and if a stop dident produce quick we were moving.on that trip at least i felt the boat really worked to get us fish,no complaints it was a way better day than pushing mud around a wall
