Finns and feathers Trip on the INDY

Pretty sure you are incorrect about how this is handled. I’ve never been on a chartered long range trip where the charter master determines trip cost and collects the money. It’s always paid directly to the office. The CM can be responsible to offset the trip cost if the load doesn’t reach an...

Agreed. And again, no disrespect but I don't get this obsession with the video guy. For Those Who Still Use Split Rings On Flatfalls For Big Bluefin...

I’m thinking that that’s a possibility. The bottom end of the jig has a pretty deep gash, not a bite mark, that looks like something had a large amount of pressure on the jig. I wonder if that leverage caused the split ring to split just enough for that thin wire to get into and eventually come...

Rod suggestion for swimbaits with 4-8oz heads for Lingcod/Rockfish

Hey there - I'm looking for a swimbait rod for Lingcod/Rockfish for 4-8oz heads. I mostly fish around the Farallons at no more than 100 ft, thanks! Reel suggestions are appreciated too.

Best way to get ready for my first LR trip in August?

Thanks all! Keep it coming! Started to read Jeff's book and looking at getting to Fred Hall. I'm not seeing a schedule though, does anyone know where I can find it?

    Reel Question

Hey guys - I've never fished in Alaska but I want to get my brother in a law a nice reel as he goes to Alaska every year for halibut/salmon/rockfish. I'm thinking of getting him a Penn Fathom 2 speed, what size would be appropriate? Cheers

That is definitely part of my plan: let everyone know on the boat that I know nothing and absorb as much knowledge as I can. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Best way to get ready for my first LR trip in August?

Ooops, it's a 7 day. It's the Fujimoto Open starting August 12th. However, I'm on the waiting list for the NorCal Tuna Club 8 day in July and if spots open up, I will switch to that one.

Best way to get ready for my first LR trip in August?

Hey there - with my trip coming up next August aboard the Royal Polaris for 7 days, I want to get familiar with the type of fishing done down there. My fishing is almost exclusively limited to fishing up here in NorCal. I'm thinking of doing a few weekend trips down to San Diego for 1/1.5 day...

Any charters currently offering tuna trips?

I'm trying to find tuna charters right now and I don't mind driving up to 2 hours north or south of San Francisco. Any operations currently running charters for tuna (albie or bluefin)? If not, which charters are typically recommended for tuna trips when the fish are up here? Thanks!

Sporty hits rocks near north tower

Is that for real? I was on the New Seeker about 6 weeks ago for Salmon as all the other boats out of Emeryville were booked. I didn't enjoy the experience, the deckhand was meh, the captain didn't come out the wheelhouse once (other captains often help the deckhands) and was driving...

Jay for sure runs a great operation out here. I'm going this Sunday, hoping for limits... again. I try to make it at least twice a month. Didn't know Dan Hernandez had a trip going, do you know the dates? My brother in law and I always joke about Dan Hernandez, "let's get back on the water for...

Yeah it's a long way out, but had no choice really. I'm getting married in 37 days, then honeymoon, then my sister's getting married, then another fishing trip in Canada yaddi yadda. I also didn't wanna go on a trip too early in the summer after what some other users have suggested.

Just booked my first LR trip, 7 day on the RP in August 2017

I finally booked my first LR trip! A 7 day aboard the Royal Polaris in August of 2017. I'm on the waiting for the NorCal Tuna Club charter 8 day before that so if space opens up I'll be switching. Anyway, it's time to slowly get ready over the next year. As stated in previous threads, I don't...

Rigs for my first LR trip, 8 days aboard the Royal Polaris in July/August 2017

Hey guys, I'll be putting a deposit on an 8 day trip aboard the Royal Polaris in July/August 2017. While I'm sure there is no single right answer to this, I'm looking for advice on rigs to get before then. I won't be buying all the rigs I need and will rent/borrow some of them but I would like...

Hey guys - thanks for all your input. I've headed your advice and decided on an 8 day trip in July instead of June and without my wife to be. As soon as I can, I'll be putting a deposit down on an 8 day aboard the Royal Polaris with the NorCal Tuna Club after Doug reached out to me and invited...

Sounds like going a little later in the summer might be better. There's an 7 day in August on the Excel for $2,900, might be a good option.

Thanks for the advice. I think I'm going to leave the fiance home. She likes fishing but she's not that into it and being on a boat for a few days is going to make her miserable and will probably make me feel guilty and take away from the experience.

My fiance said she'd be more likely to come if I went on a 6 day trip. How are those in June? I'm not expecting to catch giant tunas but I definitely want to have a good chance at 15-40 lbs yellow fins. What do you think?
