Very nice! I've always thought those were perfect boats for our area. You might cruise at "only" 22 knots, but you'll be able to do it in water that will send a lot of boats to the dock. Congrats on a beautiful new boat!

WTB Lexa 300HD for paddle board use

I've been running Daiwa BG 3500's with Shimano Trevala light spinning rods (7') up here for nearshore and love the combo. If you shop around you can find each for around $100 new. It does everything from black bass to lingcod and light albacore duty.

    Halibut gear thoughts

I'll go against the grain and say that I still like to reel a fish in the old fashioned way. We run two Tanacoms on our boat, but also run a third rod with a regular reel and I still like it. Not that I'm above grabbing an electric if we're sorting through smaller fish or constantly needing to...

    Port Angeles/Freshwater Bay Builder Recommendations

Reid Moore built our house in 2001 out in Forks. He did several houses in this area around that time and everyone including us was exceptionally happy with his work. Paint Matching

The boat was painted by the prior owner and he doesn't have any of the original paint left. I sent him the picture of the paint we have and he thought it looked right. But as others have stated it's pretty much impossible to accurately say based on a couple of pictures. The paint company is...

We weren't questioning him at all when he first said it was wrong. Paint Matching

I wish the boat was painted with Awlgrip or something else that we could find locally. Unfortunately this stuff is coming out of Alabama and there are no West Coast distributors. I'm not really sure why they'll only do a gallon, but the paint is $79/gallon, but the shipping was $230!
  33. xtshawytscha

    Paint Matching

The repair is small. A couple of scratches basically. A gallon is the smallest amount the company would ship. Boat was painted in 2016 and stored indoors or under cover so I'm sure it's faded some, but not too much.
  34. xtshawytscha

    Paint Matching

Very true. The only problem is we don't want him to spray it if it's not the right color. He's got the boat and is saying it's not. We have a weather window right now and the body work is done. To get another gallon of paint will take well over a week and put us into rain and I think it will be...

We struggled for hali on Thursday. Actually the worst we've done in 20 years out of La Push. Went to a smaller spot with fewer boats and normally we're hooked up within a minute or two of hitting bottom. Lings were fine, but the halibut fishing was definitely concerning. Didn't fish Saturday.

    "Disheartening" is an Understatement

Two threads in a row (this and the Dagmar theft) showing complete lack of law enforcement's ability to hold criminals accountable is deeply disturbing. I'm a big pilothouse fan, but I also always fish with at least 1 other person and normally 2. I would not want to run my boat by myself as it's not super fun at the dock to run from the helm to grab the dock. It seems that a cc would be much better for solo trips. I'd certainly want rear...

    Permatrim or Not?

I run with the bow trimmed up a little because it does tend to bow steer more than I'm used to. To be honest, I'm still getting used to the boat as it's a vastly different boat than our last one and I only have 3 trips on it so far and all have been light loads for bottomfish. Reading above, it...

    Grays harbor county , nice?

That a serious offer? We might be willing to take you up on that. I live a couple hours north of Ocean Shores but we're down in Westport a few times a year too. I'll PM you my contact info.
  244. xtshawytscha

    Permatrim or Not?

Kurt I can't say for sure because I haven't used one, but the vast majority of what I've read online has been overwhelmingly positive. I would think since you're adding a bit more drag you might see a minor mph penalty. Not an issue for us since we're in the ocean 100% of the time and we never...
  245. xtshawytscha

    Permatrim or Not?

We do have trim tabs, but my understanding is that the permatrim really helps, especially with the typical heavy NW tuna load.

    Permatrim or Not?

Thanks for the feedback! Looking more and more like our next project.
  247. xtshawytscha

    Permatrim or Not?

I'm looking for feedback from people who are running or have run a permatrim on their outboard. I see lots of Parker owners running them and everyone seems to really like them. Lower planing speed, improved stability and better economy seem to be consistent improvements reported by people. Our...

Selling tuna bellies off charter/sport caught fish.. legal?

Just looking for clarification because it's a little tough to find a solid answer on this. Commercial tuna license = HMS permit correct? And then the reseller license is through wdfw?

    New boat cogitation......

I think there is a reason you don't see too many center consoles out here. A little afternoon wind and your wife and kids will have a wet ride without any weather protection. I don't know your budget, but would recommend something like a North River, Hewescraft, Alumaweld or similar light weight...

I'll be in touch! We're traveling with the kids for a few days during spring break, but I'll get in touch with you when I get home. I think we'll end up building the box before we know exactly what size we'll need the cushion to be so it's likely at least a few weeks out.

Good advice and I will follow it. The intake thru hull is already in place - I think it's 1" but will verify. Question regarding the drain thru hull. Thank you for the info on the pumps! That's been one of my biggest concerns. I really like the idea of using the tank top for other purposes when not being used for bait. Ours is low enough we may just use it as a seat when it's empty. When you're talking about Patrick's tank and mention...

That's where we were originally planning on putting it, but got nervous that we would have too much weight towards the stern. You're right that that would simplify the drain situation! Maybe I'll set it back there full of water once the kicker is installed and see what we think.

There is an AC system on the boat so all of the tough stuff is already done. We're going to remove the AC and just use the raw water pick-up and strainer for the bait tank. I would just feel more comfortable with a pro doing the install.

We just bought our boat from a guy in Mississippi who upgraded to a Contender 35st with twin F350s. Looks like an incredible boat until you hear the 1mpg part of the deal! I've always wondered about something like that out west here with a small pilothouse.

That appears to be an auction with that being the starting price. I ran across a similar ad when we were shopping for a pilothouse boat and it just smelled fishy.
