    "Killer" day on the water!!!

For reds, I consider 200' or less to be "shallow". With 2-3 years of warm water finding bigs reds in less than 100' is going to be really tough.

Nice! The Ballistic 2500 is a sweet reel. I have the BG3000 paired up with Phenix M1 Inshore SMX-711ML. Great setup for fishing the 60g Tokon for rockfish as well as 1oz krocs for bonito and 4" swimbaits for calico!!!

    Surface Iron - Phenix Abyss/Axis/BD?

I know this is an old thread but I wanted to offer up some resent observations.... My buddy with the M1 Inshore 909H swapped out the Trini 12A for a Lexa 400. Total changed things. Makes a great setup for the Waxwing Sr. Watched him kill two 25lb (on the scale) yellows back to back on that...

    Surface Iron - Phenix Abyss/Axis/BD?

Ya, the Axis 820XH will work nicely for that. The other rod that I would have considered is the PSW 809XHJ.
  26. Nardo

    Surface Iron - Phenix Abyss/Axis/BD?

Hmmm.... That's a little tougher. We played with the M1 Inshore 909H as a jig stick and it was nowhere near as user friendly as the PSW909H and PSW909XHJ. Our intent was to use it for the Tady A & C and the Kicker 15L as well as smaller Waxwings. My buddy put a Trini 12A on it with 65lb...

    Surface Iron - Phenix Abyss/Axis/BD?

Need more info.... What's the target species, what size fish? Private boat or party boat? With a 9' stick and a Tady 45 or Kicker 25L, you will part 65lb. I've lost 10-12 jigs that way. Not even with a backlash. Just plan "pow!". I've never hook something I can not land on a Lexa 400HD and...

    Surface Iron - Phenix Abyss/Axis/BD?

    Fish 80lb braid with the 809XHJ and 909XHJ!!! I highly recommended it over 65lb. You can part 65lb by simply casting a Tady 45 of Kicker 25L. 909H (Lexa 400HD) - 65 braid w/ 40FC 909XHJ (Lexa 400HD) - 80 braid with 50FC 809XHJ (reel varies) - 80 braid w/ 60-100FC

There's really no easy way to power a display from a 110 outlet. You would need an inverter. Do you have a old 12V boat battery laying around? If so, wire out a pair alligator clamps and a fuse...and you're set! If not, wire out a 12V accessory plug and run it off your cigarette lighter in...

transducers, stern mount vs. through hull?

Totally agree and totally disagree.... Agree: I've see people spent $100,000 on a boat but yet will not spend more than $600 on their sonar. It blows my mind!!! Sonar, and possibly radar if you spent the big $$$ for the good stuff, is the only piece on equipment on your boat that can locate...

    22' Anderson - Honda 250hp+20hp vs Twin 135hp...?

Here is a 23' Wilson that was extended 2 to 3 foot. This is that I'm planning on doing but I'm leaning towards a Honda 250hp with a 20hp kicker (the 20hp weighs the same as a 15hp). 22' Anderson - Honda 250hp+20hp vs Twin 135hp...?

Definitely easier to fish around! Maybe I'm not understanding what your saying.... Either way, the weight would be at the transom. Do not see how the extension moves the weight further back? We're not doing a bracket because the weight would be past the transom. THAT would be moving the...

Understand what your saying about the weight. Eddie Anderson and I have been discussing the weight distribution issues, one reason to the 24" extension instead of a jack plate or Armstrong style bracket. Big trim tabs are a must. The extra 300lbs on the transom may be the best reason NOT to...

Great idea but it would cost a lot more. If I did that I could install a 80 gallon live well in the middle and then have two 24"x36" lazarettes, one on either side. Would also allow for a 50 gallon bait tank on deck. It may happen some day but probably not now.

    yellow tail people are keeping

There are 5 stages to a fishermen career: 1) You want to catch a fish, ANY fish. (ie, a 3-5lb yellowtail) 2) You want to catch a LOT of fish. (ie, a LOT of 3-5lb yellowtail) 3) You only want to catch BIG fish. 4) You only want to catch DIFFICULT fish 5) You want to teach OTHERS what you have...

UnReel, What reels on these outfits? Nick
  423. Nardo

    Phenix PSW809H

Great rod! I have 2 and fish um with 50lb braid and 30-40lb topshot. (65lb braid "floats" too much for most applications.) Perfect for halibut and seabass on the squid grounds. For a kelpcutter rig, I'd fish the 8'6" or 9'0" version with 65lb braid and 50-60lb FC.

Yamaha 200hp HPDI - will not go past 3000rpm

Fried the motherboard (also called the ECM).That explains why I have so many symptoms. The prop hub was only partially spun and had nothing to do with it. I'll have her back by Friday.

Yamaha 200hp HPDI - will not go past 3000rpm

It's a spun prop AND some sort of electrical issue. Something with the ignition system, like a bad coil. Not exactly sure yet. How the hell did both of those occurr at the same time?! Or did they? Eric from Specialty Marine picked her up this evening. Should know more tomorrow....

You guys are not going to believe this !!! Just spoke to the girlfriend.... She said I should just buy a new outboard. I explained a new outboard could be $12-$18K. Her reply, "so what, whatever it takes to get you back on the water." God I love that women!

Yamaha 200hp HPDI - will not go past 3000rpm

Been using a fuel stabilizer since I got the boat. Two months ago I mounted the new kicker and pumped it into the fuel system. Could have created a vacuum leak in the process.
  432. Nardo

Yamaha 200hp HPDI - will not go past 3000rpm

That was my initial thought,... a safe mode of some sort. That's why I came home with the kicker, I did not want to damage something by running it. It dropped from 4400 to 3000 in an intent. It mid to high RPMs I would think a fuel issue would cough and sputter a little or surge or...

Yamaha 200hp HPDI - will not go past 3000rpm

Just talked to a friend and he says there is two different ways to spin a prop hub,... one causes RPMs to increase and the other causes the RPMs to decrease? DoubletroubleII could be right! I'm leaning towards something electrical. The volt meter reading 11.8V does not sound like a spun...
  436. Nardo

Yamaha 200hp HPDI - will not go past 3000rpm

Wouldn't that cause the RPMs to go up not down? With the boat turned off and the throttle in gear, I can turn the prop by hand with some force.
  437. Nardo

Yamaha 200hp HPDI - will not go past 3000rpm

Ok, interesting..... Two weeks ago I replaced the batteries with (2) new group 31s. Have 5 trips on them without a problem. BUT yesterday right after it happened I noticed the voltage was 11.8, not the 13.8 that it usually is when the main is running.
  438. Nardo

Yamaha 200hp HPDI - will not go past 3000rpm

After nine hours @ 3-3.5 kts,... less than a mile from the harbor, the kicker shuts down.... Wrapped a piece of poly, no floats and no trap. Just floating! What the f#*k? I guess someone did not want me to go fishing today?
