Do you guys recommend replacing the hooks on the Nomad Buffalo jigs? I know they are stronger hooks than the Shimano flatfall, but are they strong enough?

The Indy is one of the main boats i'm looking at. Only issue is I'm looking for a fall 8 day and they only run 7 & 10 day trips in the fall. Have you been on one of their 7 day fall trips? How many fishing days on average do you think you get on a 7 day?

Also, going on my 1st 6-8day fall trip in a couple years. I like to travel light. Do you think i'm good with 2 - 25N's (30 & 40lb setups) and 2 - 40's (60 & 80lb setups)? All Penn Fathom 2 speeds. And maybe my 10000 Saragosa spinning setup just for fun.

For 60lb and 80lb top shots, mono or flouro? Pro's and con's? I always use a short piece of flouro on my smaller gear, but haven't caught any of these big fish yet and know it's a different game.

Call the RP office. Most long range boats have some heavy setups you can use / rent if you call ahead so you don't have to buy it.

For those of you that use a Berkley Gulp Grub and a live sardine or mackerel on a dropper loop setup for rock fishing, are you putting the Gulp Grub on the bottom or top hook? Or does it even matter? I want to try it this weekend. I'm taking my son out for his 1st time rock fishing.

Surf fishing is a great way to keep fishing while you save up money for your next trip on a party boat.

Lead core trolling 2-4 colors deep on the west side of the lake is the best luck we have had. Mornings and evenings are your best bet. Middle of the day is tough fishing everywhere on that lake.

That boat has RSW i believe. Are they using it or just putting the yellowtail in the sacks?

If he is just getting into fishing, i would save some money and go with something like the Penn Warfare WAR15LW level wind. The level wind would be great for a beginner especially while rock fishing on the 3/4 day boats. Pretty good reel for $85.

If you want a rod that is a little more stiff for some lifting power and you like Shimano, check out the Teramar rods. I have 3 of them. Great rods and they are cheaper than the Terez rods.

I agree with this. If i were to spend money on a new 21'-28' boat, it would be a Steiger Craft over Parker. Level deck into the cabin, cooler looking and i believe a larger gas tank.

I love The Longfin, that's my local tackle shop. Sucks they couldn't help you. Shimano is in Irvine and obviously do nothing but the best when it comes to reel repairs and tune ups. Good luck!

We have been going down to Cabo for the last 10 years at end of August. The humidity and heat can suck, but you get use to it after a couple days. We like it cause the resort is always half empty and so is the town. And we have always had pretty decent fishing at the end of August. Good luck...

Overnight trips out of San Diego in June, looks like the Old Glory out of H&M might be your only option for a Saturday. And the Thunderbird out of Davey's Locker in Newport does overnight trips daily.
