Yeah it’s a switch on the shift linkage that cuts the ignition to slow the motor right when the shift cable is doing the shift. Without it the drive may going going into gear. Mine went bad and shifting was hard.

A few more thoughts: If you are keeping all of the OMC stuff like shift and throttle cables/linkage, engine coupler and outdrive assembly and just changing the engine, I would think just the bell housing may need to be changed and add a through hull fitting, sea cock and plumbing for the sea...

Sounds like a good estimate. Cruising at 20k at 3000 rpm he says a burn rate of 1.8 mpg so 270 miles but you aren’t always at cruise so throw in some trolling and low speed use and could top 300. But without any reserve so 200-250 would be a reasonable range to plan for imo.

Have you checked the power consumption with a clamp on amp meter while it's under a load? It would be good to check the available voltage also. If the voltage is low, amperage will increase and maybe causing the thermal overload to switch open. I would start at the batteries checking...

You must have a transom mounted pump that is mounted a little too high up on the transom. When the boat rises out of the water to get up on plane, the pump sucks air. Try lowering the pump so it is at least 1/4" lower than the bottom of the boat.

Check out the six pack boats, they sometimes have open charters to fill a trip. I don't care for crowds so I always go for limited load trips or take my own rig. It costs more but it's. worth it to me. Good luck whereever. You go.

I have the same rig and tow it with an F250 diesel 4x4. I think it weighs about 8,000 or more fully loaded on the trailer so I think it would be pushing the Tacoma unless you were only going a short distance.

Downriggers work good and then you don't have to fight the weight and the fish. You can also tape the sinker on the line so it falls off when you hook up a good fish.

I used Starbrite hull cleaner I got at Walmart for rust stains below the outdrive on my boat. Worked good. It's some kind of acid so you have to e=wear gloves and keep it off stuff you don't want to clean. I also used it in a few other areas with good results.

No lies from me, those are 2X8 boards, definitely not 2X6 boards, nominal size is probably 71/2" wide. Measure your foot with your shoe on, you might be surprised.

It's not my foot in the photo, but I measured mine and it's 4.75 with a shoe on. The boards are 2" x 8" s4s lumber so they probably measure around 7.5 inches wide. Believe what you want.
