Even for a direct mount, motors are rarely mounted at the lowest setting. Depends on boat. You should mount with guesstimate. Test it. Then adjust or mount permanent. You are investing time and money, you should do it correctly.

7:1 50lb 8 carrier braid, 5' of 40-50lb mono. Smoother the braid the smoother the cast. Flies with all size iron and stick baits. If I were to have a dedicated stick bait rod I would do the 8:1 to keep up with teh boat sliding in on em.

If you count rotations without clamp, you'll never bottom out. You could epoxy threads above as a visual reference. Or wrap with electrical tape. Honestly, counting to 3 has never been an issue for me.

Be careful not to bottom out barrel nut. You will then be rotating set screw you used as a post. You should really just look for some 1/4-20 BHCS and skip the barrel nut. Add a washer if you have one a wee too long or just cut to size. KISS

Breaking scotty spools is mostly due to uneven line on spool. Adjust line guide so it spools at center and you will have less cracking. Out of the box, my riggers tended to pack up on the lower spool....the weakest part. I would get 2-3 years fishing 300' and 20lbs. Then someone else pointed...

FYI the TLDI is a true Tohatsu. The 150 and up 4strokes are Hondas rebranded.

Water pump is not hard....maybe 3 on a 1-10 scale. There's a few tricks you'll learn and your 2nd and 3rd times will be faster. With all basic tools and no issues its an hour job at the most. Tohatsu has a GREAT service manual. Factory Service Manual $75 well spent.

Man Im missing something today. I am in the wrong place. Cultiva and Shout assist hooks are what I normally get. Finally Gamakatsu and others are making big enough assist hooks. The new Gama 720 Assist hooks have just been ordered. If it's bait hooks or regular jig hooks the landing or LTS.

I use my regular 120qt Igloo. It holds the fish and ice for a few days. However, my dreams of a COHO molded cooler have finally came true. Costco has a nice 165qt COHO cooler just like the big boys for $99...maybe it was $149. Not all Costco's have them yet...

Get an ACR PLB and Mustang HIT Offshore vest. Unzip the vest and install the PLB on left shoulder strap. Wrap, roll and zip vest back up. You wont even know it is there. But when you need it, everyone will know were you are. But, you have to wear your vest 100% of time or it all means nothing...

If you are fishing 30lb mono with 65lb braid backing, Uni-Uni will work just fine. If you are fishing 100lb topshot with 100lb mono and going after cows, respool or use section of hollow.

I found a shoulder/sling backpack my dad had laying around. It's smaller then a regular backpack but holds a 3600 tray and a couple 12oz cans. It's nice not having to take it off to get to things. Just slide it around the front.

I would ask for a sea trial to see how it sits in water. That boat was not designed for a 250 V6 4-stroke. Make sure the scuppers are out of the water. I would also have the motor looked over....as well as fuel tank, hull and electrical. Have any friends that know boats? If solid, that looks...

I chartered a boat on the north shore one summer. Lake trout on downrigger. It was basically a meat harvest as the fish floated to the boat after a minute of reeling in. If you can get them shallow it would be fun. Else....I'd rather go rafting or mtn biking.
