    VHF w/ GPS vs. AIS??

The GPS in the VHF is so the dsc function works without having to connect it to your chartplotter. I would recomend getting one that has ais, gps and nmea2k capable. It makes interfacing it extremely easy and the ais is a major game changer when you are around commercial traffic.

Pull into the harbor last night and there is a small commercial boat offloading 5 to 700lbs of rockfish. He says that commercial is still open but its okay its shutdown for him next month when recreational opens. I thought the whole point of shutting it down is to let the fish spawn.

Yamaha command link+ LCD guage kit

Yes it will work on a new Yamaha, I believe all 2012+ motors over a certain HP were command link + compatible. The unit itself year wise I don't know if there is a way to tell. There is a step down multifunction gauge and then the brand new one which is a Garmin 7" screen with Yamaha software on...

    Christmas Eve

The problem I have with trolling is its to much like work, then when you catch one your best bet is to leave the boat in gear and plane the sucker up and stick it. Kinda takes the fun outta it. This was more of a dive trip with a little fishing mixed in. Left Saturday and returned Sunday afternoon. Dove the front and backside of Cruz. Awesome idea for launching boats in baja.

A guy here in Lompoc had one. Saw it in Santa Barbara harbor a few times. Looked like way to much crap to go wrong for the weekend boater but could see where it would be extremely useful.

    LED Light Bars?

Like said above. Get it up there powered up to find placement to try and eliminate the major glare. They aren't meant for high speed maneuvering on the water. They work great at night for everything else. Had one on the boat for a year now and wouldn't go back to the remote spotlight if you paid me.

    Winch question

You most definitely want a two speed winch with the appropriate weight rating and a strap. The two speed makes it great for getting the last 3 inches of boat on the trailer in the low speed setting and the high speed is great for getting strap off the drum in a hurry. Something like this...

    Stryker wireless spotlight

This came with the boat and where they mounted it makes it unusable. I get a bad glare on the windshield and personally see no real use for it anyway. The only time I have turned it on is at the house to check all the systems before heading out. Comes with everything you need. The remote can be...

    12/11/16 - Don't forget your Tow memberships

Thanks for that info Derek. This is what I was assuming with the trailer assist. For 14 bucks a year I will keep it for the other trailers but what a pain in the ass for the boat trailer. I was wondering how in the hell they would get that thing on a low boy in the first place on the side of the...

    How to fix gel coat?

After all the Gelcoat repair I have done on my boat if you don't already have the supplies and such you are better off having somebody that knows what they are doing accomplish that. You have some glass work to do first and then the color matching gelcoat work. You'll be into it easily a couple...

    Goleta Beach Kayak Fishing 12/13

I noticed diving up the coast from there the other day an unusual amount of sand bass and calicos. Never seen that many on the coast. Maybe they moved up with the warm water this year and are getting accustomed to the cold water. Dove that pipeline quite a few times. It can hold a lot of life...

    12/11/16 - Don't forget your Tow memberships

Renew it every year and plan on not using it but as you said a plan C if you need it. Was always curious about the big boat thing and over passes and such. There's no way to go around them all where I'm at so would be interesting to find out.

    12/11/16 - Don't forget your Tow memberships

has anybody used the trailer assist on a boat that sits at 13ft in the air. Would be interesting to know how they would approach that. I trailer at least 60 miles one way and have the trailer assist but always wondered how they would deal with putting the boat and trailer on a lowboy.

Last 2016 Rockcod Trip - Low Key

For this time of year up the coast the visibility was good and found a few new spots with structure to dive. Managed 3 legal's and saw a crap ton of shorts after 3 tanks. Last 2016 Rockcod Trip - Low Key

Nice job getting out ryan I finally got the boat back together and took it out sun outta SB and headed up the like. Sailfish Boats - Good, Average, Bad?

I've got the Walkaround cuddy with the full pilot house. The bait tank is in the starboard stern corner and is a lobster hotel not a bait tank. 2000 Bayrunner Baja 21 minor rebuild

I hear ya on the bilge draining thing. Personally I wouldn't use bronze at all on an aluminum hull. Either marelon or PVC. PVC after the seacock isn't to bad because if you have a failure you can always close the seacock. Hope that helps. The only downside of alloy hulls.

bait pump question, had 1100 now have 800gph but outlet is only 3/4

I doubt you would be able to buy just the fitting and I can't remember off hand what the threads were on that damn thing. If the are standard pipe threads you should be able to find a Marlon fitting that should work. It has an O-ring on the outlet right?

Gotta love owning a heavy trailerable boat.

Those are the ones. Took me over 2 hours to get them all off. I've got the aluminum rims soo it was a pain in the ass with them recessed in the rims. Half of them I had to pound on a 6 point metric socket to get them off and then pound the damn lug back out once off. Frustrating to say the least.
  396. benrd81

Gotta love owning a heavy trailerable boat.

I understand the electrolysis issue however there's enough anti seize and the tires will be rotated yearly along with the brakes being checked semi annually, its not stored in the water so I really shouldn't run into any problems. Thanks for the heads up though.
  397. benrd81

Gotta love owning a heavy trailerable boat.

This thing had regular lug nuts that you see on cars which isn't good. Its a regular steel nut with a thin chrome cover over the top. The saltwater gets in between the cap and steel nut and well that's the end of that. I could have used galvanized however the price difference wasn't that much...

Gotta love owning a heavy trailerable boat.

Well the simple job of rotating tires on the triple axle trailer turned into a nightmare when I fit the 3/4" socket to a chrome capped steel lug nut. Why pacific trailers ever did this is beyond me. Called the local NAPA and they had 3 yes 3 ( who uses 3 1/2" SS lug nuts on a damn vehicle). Can...

The biggest problem is the temp below the thermocline. I know its the islands and not the coast but when I dove cruz earlier this month the surface temp was 61 degrees however 30 feet down it was 52 degrees and colder the deeper you went. SST's are one thing bottom temp is another.

Started this trip out of Ventura at 0430. Bought a mixed scoop of bait (chovies, sardine and squid) and headed across in flat conditions. DONT FORGET TO DISCONNECT TRAILER LITES

Paul, what very well could have happened is that you lost a cell or two on the battery at start up and it just happened to coincide with the trailer. Could also very well be a small draw on the truck side with the key off and it was that batteries time. Good luck really don't think it is on the...

Smart tabs ? On an aluminum skiff?

I had them on my 21' bayrunner and they made a world of difference. If I was you I would go with the 20lb actuators. I started with the 60lb and dropped to the 40lb. The 21' is a much heavier boat than the 19'.

    Another kicker question

Have 1 on my aluminum for 1 reason only and that's to keep me off the hard if the main fails. The blowing wind and fast current can keep you from getting an anchor set in time especially out at the islands. Just make sure the kicker runs good.

    Klamath Bayrunner baja opinions

There was a major difference between the ones produced between 96 I believe and 2002. Could be wrong on the dates but I'm close. They were much beefier. The gunnels were wider and instead of the wood deck running up to the aluminum there is an aluminum strip all the way around which helps...
