If I wasn't on an 8 day trip two weeks after this one I'd also be all over this. It'd be an honor to fish with Jamie for 10 days!
Congrats to your daughter, Craig! (And to proud dad, of course!)
Sorry, fellas. Too good to pass up. :madfire:
Another beauty, Jake. I'd take it if I didn't already have one!
Well, I have a 3.5 day trip on the Islander next week so I'm sure all of these hot YT bites will die down before then. :D
Wow. How nice of you dumb-asses to totally de-rail this topic. How about you guys try to answer the TS's question and take the political bullshit...
I'm interested. I can meet you somewhere tomorrow to check them out.
+1 on the Pit Bulls.
Bump for a great rod builder.
Hope everything works out, Tim.
Some nice bass there!
Bummer. Love my Scopace pills.
What were we talking about again?
Thanks for the report!
Perfect example of why BD needs a "dislike" button...lol.
Thanks for the report, TS. I'm on a 3.5 day on the Islander at the end of the month and...
I guess it's better that he passed out in the Jack and the Box drive-through than behind the wheel of the R85.
Uhh, it's called not opening the thread if it bothers you so much.
Do you really need a button for that?
I think that is all the explanation that was needed. I don't know you but good luck in your future endeavors!
4 pages and not one mention of Blowpops?!?!
Thanks for the heads up! I'll be down in SD July 24th. Maybe there'll be some fish mounts left.
Thanks for the Cove report. I'll be back up there mid-September, if not sooner.
Kind of irresponsible to assume to yourself that the captain fell asleep and then post possible mis-information all over the internet, no?...
Yeah, but I'm in Norcal and don't want to go through the hassle of shipping it. Since it's a spinner it has a large first guide that doesn't fit...
That is gold.
Thanks for the report! I love the Islander and will be back for their 3.5 day trip next month. The upgraded bait tanks and wells look sweet!
Thanks for taking us with you, Kil!
Thank God. LOL.
Cool dude, but I wasn't a fan of his cooking.
Thanks for the report!
Is Jake still cooking for them?
Wow. Great deal!
Hey Mike, do you know if there are still spots available? A friend and I are interested. I'm going to call Joe tomorrow, but saw you were on-line. :D
Hey guys. I just came here to try to illegally buy some sport caught fish from someone but none of you meanies will help me out so just...
A buddy I've fished with on the Islander for the last few years came out of the bathroom freshly lathered up with sunscreen, grabbed his $800...
Thanks for the great report. Ton of info in this thread.
Damn, if I was local I'd take that Predator!
You can spin it however you want to, but the fact remains it is still illegal. I'm not judging anybody or trying to make anybody look bad. All I'm...
It’s illegal to receive money for sport caught fish. Period.
“Oh no, Mr. Warden, I wasn’t buying this cooler full of tuna fillets. I was just...
Other than it being illegal?
I know that you’re implying that a third party can go pay the processing fees directly to the processor and take the...
Sweet! Glad to hear this, although I can’t really say I’ve ever gotten a shitty tackle spot on either boat due to having to line up.
Polaris Supreme and the Islander still board FCFS.
Another vote for the Islander.
It's a midshipman. Like mentioned above; they are great bait for leopard sharks. You can catch them by flipping over rocks on shore during low tide.
Good luck, fellas!
If only LR fishing reports were posted in this forum then it really would be dead.
Also, I think it’s hilarious that some of you want to bitch...
Ha! Rick Powers is a fucking tool.
Nice. I've been on one 2.5 day trip, three 3.5 day trips, one 10 day trip, and one 8 day trip and my Phenix Black Diamond 809XHJ w/Talica 10ii is...
The Ass Hole Invitational 8 Day is now on the Polaris Supreme. This year will be the 26th annual trip and Dallas is the current chartermaster. We...
It looks just like the pacific torpedo ray posted above. Striations, tail, and all.
Google is your friend.
It looks like a round stingray to me.
I don't think it's a batray, but I'm pretty sure it's some kind of stingray.
Sea lion eating a stingray.
Lil Orca checkin' us out on the PS last October.
Thanks for the nice, long, write-up!
I'm going to save reading it for work tomorrow.:D
*Edit - HAHA! Just realized I already read it when you...
Way to be positive about the trip.
Blue and black rockfish love 'em. I think Molas feed on them, as well.
If you ever decide to branch out I'd suggest a UC Swimbait Finatic RUC 711H or RUC711XH.
The Larry Brown 10 Day is a great, low key trip. My first trip over 3.5 days was the 2017 Larry Brown 10 day. IMO, Larry is a great charter master...
Hotel before or after your trip?
My best time from the SD landing to Santa Rosa was 7 hours and 15 minutes.
Tell 'im, Jake!
I still haven't put a decent bend in the 76 Predator you wrapped for me. Just a few bonito and some 20lb yft. Maybe this year!
Cool for the X, but other boats like the Islander have pretty much already had this policy...except for maybe the water bottles.
Pretty impressed with that bonito, honestly! Thanks for the report.
Way to get the little man out there!
As far as mounts go try here:
Without knowing anything else other than the length of the trips you posted I'd go with the 7 Day.
This post was originally about jackpot money. How the hell some of you Reading for Comprehension drop-outs turned it into a tipping thread is...
Jesus, you guys are all over the place. Some of you are talking about drugs, some are talking about illegal immigrants, and at least one of you is...
LMAO. I was just scrounging through the archives and came across this thread. 11 years later and Alec hasn't changed a goddamn bit.
Did I see those at the Nomad booth at Fred Hall by chance?
Actually, it's the correct way to fish that reel.
It's just like anything else in life to some closed minded people - Somewhere in their life some douche they looked up to told them spinning reels...
Yes, we occasionally have rockfish boiling on the surface up here. Mostly blues and blacks busting on little jellyfish.
Congrats on winning the trip!
Go to NCKA.org and sign up for a membership.
Cool video. What pound line were you using?
The food and quiet, smooth ride of the Intrepid.
The low gear on my tac10ii when I’m getting my ass kicked by a skipjack.
I can see that!
I think I'm good for now (haha). My October 8 day will more than likely hit the Ridge and/or Rocks so probably won't need anything...
You're killin' me, Jake.
I love my Black Hole S801H.
Black Hole Nano is nice, too, but I like the shorter rod on a crowded deck.
More happy to hear that you’ll be on the trip again. :-)
Our flight got delayed out of Oakland, so I didn't get there early enough yesterday. I did score some JRI direct tie bombs, though!
Signing up right now!
Agreed! My "huh?" was directed at ny2sd. :-)
A lot of the boats were nailin' cows on 10 day trips in '17.
Sweet. I want to say what's up to Alec, as well.
I'll try to stop by on Wednesday to say hi, Tom!
Wifey and I fly down from Oakland, rent a car, and drive back.
The tradition started in 2017 when I attended my first Fred Hall Show. I got RT...
I'll be there on Wednesday. Making a bee-line to Bob Sands then just wandering around with my wife looking at/for art, jewelry, beef jerky, etc.
See you Wednesday, Jamie.
Great pics! Thanks for sharing.
Danny was referring to the upward sweeping motion, then quick drop of the rod tip used when fishing slow pitch jigs.
The thread title wasn’t misleading at all and made it obvious what the context of the post would be. It would have taken you zero effort and...
In typical on-line forum fashion, thread starter asks specifically which captains do not allow spiral wrapped rods to be fished on their boat and...
Damn. And I thought my 520 mile drive was bad...
Hop on one of the Islander's 3.5 day trips. Don't think their schedule is posted yet, though. The July trip has been a blast the last three years.
Are you on the AHI trip again this year, a_p?
In the example I was giving I wasn't necessarily using "aggressive" in a bad term. One of the "aggressive" anglers was one of my best friends and...
I fly down from Oakland, rent a car, and drive back up. Flights from OAK to LB are only $58. Last year I found a flight for $38.
My wife likes to...
Was pretty much going to say something along these lines. On the AHI trip on the PS it's bombs away as soon as the first troll fish is...
No worries. Not sure how much extra time I'll have when I'm down there, now that I think about it. Go ahead with the sale this weekend and thanks...
So, in an effort to gain more views for your youtube channel you re-edited and then re-posted someone else's video to your channel?
Haha. You’re selling it for $300 but you’ll hold it for me for $450? I’ll pass.
I'm still interested, but need to see a pic and would also kick you a little more cash to hold onto it until next month when I'm down there for...
I'm interested if original buyer declines.
Just the tip.....just for a second....just to see how it feels.
I fly down, rent a car, and drive back. It's like $54 to fly to LB from Oakland.
What models are they?
Agreed...and I'm a kayak fisherman that has 4 friends that have been nailed by GWS on their kayaks.
Yeah, I was just trying to be funny, but if we really want to break it down.
Did you ever end up taking this trip? If so, how was it?
I'm seriously contemplating hopping on it this year. Thanks!
Your best bet will probably be to check out the Bob Sands Booth at the show. They have a huge selection of awesomely priced JRIs.
Always my first...
How come it’s not cool for chubby old ladies to ride manatees but this broad is free to piggyback on GWS?!
Thanks for the on the water updates! Sounds like a great trip already.
If you're asking so you can practice casting, use an appropriate sized Big Hammer or other swimbait without a lead-head as opposed to using a lead...
Pic looks like a tac12.
I was using a new Shimano Saragosa 10K with 65lb braid and one of my buddies was using my Shimano Twin Power 14K with 80lb braid. Looks...
'Man, you kayak guys sure sold me on those spinners'
Capt. Alec of the Supreme after our AHI trip and seeing my friends and I slay the wahoo with...
As long as they are not cows or....gulp....super cows!
Nice! Thanks for sharing.
Welcome to the internet.
Wow. Did anyone try a small squish jig? Looks just like one.
If for any reason Gerry doesn't take it, I will!
One more recommendation for the Islander and the Polaris Supreme. You may want to check the Royal Star, as well.
Hell yeah. Protect ya ankles, kid.
Holy shit! I'm glad someone else took that.
If 3.5 day trips are long enough for your group I'd definitely check out the Islander, although I'm pretty sure they haven't posted their trip...
Then your best bet, by far, is to make the short trek to SD. Most of the SD Long Range Fleet have limited load trips. Boats like the Polaris...
Kil is a Black Hole rep.
You should also reach out to Jamie (fishordie) and see if he has any suggestions.
+1 UC Swimbait Finatic.
That's your fish coming over the rail in the shot above, Andrew.
Hell, if there were hot, bikini-clad, ladies giving massages on these trips my wife would be signing us both up.
Yes, it was! :-)
Little orca in our wake on the PS.
I'm having a blast returning his dumb ass love notes every time I'm bored at work. I figure he's a sad POS and needs someone to talk to anyway....
Thanks for the report and pics. SICK UW Hoo pic!!
Nobody here gives a shit what you think, Ahab.
So you're gay and like to take it in the butt. There's nothing wrong with that, but I don't see why you felt the need to come out of the closet on...
So there I was. My rod in one hand, my pole in the other...
Capt Ahab = Son of Ahab = Elijah.
Plus whatever else he called himself and got banned before I got here...lol.
Anyway, thanks for the help passing the time at work, tough guy. I can't play with you any more because I have things to do outside of work unlike...
You remember this fucking idiot, right? The little fat guy who loves to tell this amazing story he just PM'ed me.
You will NEVER possess the...
Last post in this thread but immediately hops on IM to try to talk to me about all kinds of gay things that he sure seems to know a lot about....
I work in the medical industry and have had a hand in saving literally thousands of lives.
You're a fucking troll on an...
Haha. It just dawned on me that this guy is back again already.
Yeah, I noticed that.
I was wondering what boat it was, too. It wasn't very hard to figure out considering we have access to members' post history. ;)
I also don't get...
Sorry for the tough trip, Soda.
Hard to imagine poor conditions and lacking customer service on the most expensive boat in the fleet. Especially...
Yeah, that's crazy when you can pay just $200 more for an early season 7 day trip.
Me and some friends are on the AHI trip again in Mid-October, 2019. Will more than likely be trying for a trip on a new-to-me boat in 2020.
Is that Alec?
Yeah, he's pretty tough for a little wiry guy! Not sure if he's the last of the tough guys, though. :D
Weird. I see it in the post and in your reply.
Here it is again.
PS - I love those little birds that seem to be on every LR boat. One of ours...
Thanks for the amazing report and pictures! We saw you guys from the Supreme that Thursday and Friday, I believe.
Pretty sure I took this pic on...
Morgs brings up another good point. If you find a trip you like and it's sold out put yourself on the wait list. Hell, put yourself on multiple...
Spots fill up fast so if you're serious you better get on it soon! I got back from the AssHole Invitational 8 day trip on the Polaris Supreme two...
I like to do this, too, but it's kind of frustrating throwing cig butts in the trash and then seeing the whole trash bag get thrown over the side...
Yeah, but after he retired that green one he caught just as many on a pink one, then an orange Capt. Jimmy.
Looks like my buddy was killin' 'em with an old school 'Gosa 10K.
I'll give it a try. I have both. I was just worried about grinding gears, or something.
Do you know if a 10K will fit on an 8K?
Also, on our PS AHI trip the one most important factor was where you casted. The three guys that were...
Sorry, no need to stir the pot...
HAHA! Same here. If I lived within 300 miles of SD I'd be ruined.
My first long range trip was way back in 2017. A 10 day trip on the Intrepid with Capt. Sam. We shot down to the lower banks and did exactly what...
Sorry to hear about your loss and inability to take this trip.
The orca show that topped off the trip was pretty dope, too. I was late with the camera and only captured this little fella but a few minutes...
We came in on Sunday and were the only boat offloading. I'm sure if there were other boats at the docks at that time this trip would be the talk...
Ohhhh, we sure as hell did!!
Just talked to Susan. We're bombin' South. No Guadalupe.
Can. Not. Wait.
See you guys Saturday morning!
The CM, Dallas, is hoping we bomb straight for the ridge/rocks, but is leaving it in the hands of the pros. I'll be stoked either way!
I know there's a few other BD'ers on this trip. Myself and four of my buddies are going and will be staying at the Dolphin Friday night. Looks...
Good to know about the skipjack. Thanks!
Thanks for the amazing report! It killed a good chunk of my short day at work today!
If my upcoming trip was going to Guadalupe I would have snatched up this rod and the Penn Fathom someone posted earlier.
Wow, great deal for a limited load trip. If I wasn't already on a trip at that time I'd be all over that!
Agreed. I can cast poppers farther on conventional gear, but just prefer spinning gear to work the poppers. On the other hand, I can cast the...
Nice. Gonna fish the same set-up on my 8 day in two weeks.
Thanks for the report.
You can shoot them with paintballs, too!
+1 for Momoi. I've caught legit 100lb batrays from shore on 20lb Momoi Hi Catch. All of my surface iron and yo-yo reels have 5' leaders of 50lb...
Thanks for the report!
26 more days to go for me!
That's my other jig stick.
Try a UC Swimbait Finatics RUC711H or XH. The XH is a little stiff, but in my opinion still a very good rod for throwing JRI 3s and 4s.
Good luck, fellas! This sounds like a trip I'd like to join some day!
Because they do.
I've heard some boats didn't properly submit their paperwork (or something to that affect) so those boats are not being allowed...
Sick! That's a beautiful mount. Congrats to you both.
Thanks for the info, fellas! I already have the L and XL Texas Tackle pliers, but will pick up a pair of the HPAs for the larger split rings.
Great trip and thanks for the report.
I agree with the others. Captain John is by far one of the most under-rated captains in the SD fleet.
Wish I was on this current trip on the Supreme. Looks like there's some cuties on that trip! :D
Right on. Thanks for the report!
I think three of the most important lessons are drilled into people's heads at the very beginning, and throughout the entire trip and a ton of...
I could swing it if it was during the summer, but being away for that long during the school year could potentially be a perfect warm up for me...
Damn, I'd hop on that trip but it's right before my 8 day.
I like to keep a few for fish tacos.
It's kind of funny that some people won't keep a "slow growing" calico bass, but have no problem keeping 50...
How about kayak caught dorado ceviche poolside at Rancho Leonero w/an ice cold Pina Colada?
Sick. Thanks for the report.
Thanks for the report! How did your Tac10 handle the 72lber? Any issues with it?
As well as an array of open Guadalupe Island trips.
I go a little big and wear thick socks.
If I didn't already have a Cow Man custom wrapped UC76 Predator I'd already own this.
And that question was already answered. Twice. Why not let the conversation roll?
Exactly! I'll stand on the troll rotation all day. Three of the five YFT that I brought home from my last trip were on jacked troll rods. During...
There's not really any bad rooms on the Islander, although the 4 person room D is a little cramped when there's actually four people in it.
Grouper and barramundi are probably my two favs, followed closely by wahoo.
Thanks for the report.
Back on topic - The Islander just got nice, new showers! :rockin:
I can't believe nobody has snatched these up yet.
Awesome report, Tom. Did you guys mark any paddies or fish any marked paddies? CAN. NOT. WAIT. for the AHI trip in October.
See you at the dock, A_P. I'm on that trip with four of my buddies, and in addition to HSHiker there's at least one other BDer on board.
Hey Eric! Good luck on your trip. I hope you get plenty of variety this time!!
Kind of hoping my October 8 day does not go there, as well, as I also would prefer to hit the rocks and ridge.....BUT, I've never been to...
Ha! That's awesome.
It depends on a ton of different factors but, yeah, Adrien pretty much nailed it. Toss it out and wind it in at different retrieval speeds until...
I'd recommend the Islander, but I think their only upcoming 3 day is sold out.
From what I've seen and heard, any of them.
I've been on the Islander, Pac Queen, and Intrepid and the crews on all of the boats were top notch...
I just got off of the 3.5 day trip. Capt John is by far one of the most under-rated captains out there. He has no interest in fishing a bft bite...
Pretty much. :D
I'll try to get some pictures and put together a report from my Islander trip leaving Thursday. Not really long range, but oh well! Looks like...
Because bonita is so much easier to say than bonito???
A couple of the shows are filmed from the Islander.
Yeah, I'm sure I'm in the minority here, but I actually wish there was something else worth targeting other than these local BFT. I'd love to be...
Good luck! I'm heading out on the Islander 3.5 day Braid trip next week.
LMAO...I was gonna say...Is that someone's foot in its mouth??
Holy shit, dude!
Same. It can launch the mid-size poppers.
You changed clothes three times while out there?
The AA, Vagabond, and Ranger 85 are also in the same general area just SE of SCI.
Looks like the Islander is on 'em now, too...although they didn't mention what size.
You can use the search function on the left hand side of the screen to find individual ships.
HAD TO BE marijuana related. :D
And only $32!!
Don't forget the dungees and salmon!!
Hell yeah! Decent sacks all around. Thanks for the report. Gettin' me super pumped for a 3.5 day I have at the end of the month.
Awesome. Thanks for the report, Floyd!
Nice one on the popper!
For shorter trips up to 3.5 days I usually park in the free lot right next to the landing. For longer trips I park at the Dolphin since I usually...
Hey Tom, do you know if they've found any paddies worth marking?
Hell yeah. Thanks for the report! Got a 3.5 day at the end of the month and things look like they are shaping up nicely!
Thanks for the report and pics! (Any more pics of Lori?)
I bought over $5000 worth of gear for my 10 day trip last year and spent 85% of my rail time with a $10 rental rod in my hands 'cause I was only...
Yeah, be careful with late season 10 days. I was on a 10 day Intrepid trip last year in late October and we spent 5.5 of our 6 fishing days down...
Wow. Beautiful rod, Jake!
Awesome contribution to the thread. Keep up the good work!
Can't wait for my 8 day in 4 months!!
So, what did you catch after he left?
Thanks for the report. Sounds like the bft are starting to be a bit more willing to bite.
Sounds like a great trip! Thanks for sharing.
+1 on the United Composites RUH line-up.
Shrooms are a helluva drug! :ashamed:
The smile says it all! Congrats on the quality time with your baby.
Sick, dude! What set-up?
Great pics, too! Thanks for sharing.
You mean the seiners that met their quota last month and had to stop fishing?
Nice. Thanks for the report!
Happy to hear so many BFT are within 3.5 day range. :-)
Dude! The dog's trippin', bro! What?!?!
Good luck! I'm on the 3.5 day right before your trip.
Polaris Supreme also has a few open trips you may be interested in. Good luck with whatever trip you choose!
Right on, Soda! Glad you're feeling better and have a great trip!
Good luck! Post a report!
I ruined myself by taking my first half-a-dozen short range (2.3 & 3.5 day) trips on the Islander with only 22 people each time and then ruined...
Less people the better, IMO.
There's examples of stock Shimano FF assist hooks failing all over BD. Do a little research.
Trip sold out. Did any other BD'ers join this trip?
How long is your trip? I just park in the free lot next to Fisherman's Landing on shorter trips.
UC's dealer list from their website:
Bob Sands and a few others. I'm from Nor-Cal, but try to stop by Bob Sands whenever I head down to S.D.
+1. I have my Lexa 400 on a UC RUC711XH, mostly because I have an embarrassing dependency on reel seat "triggers" when throwing lures and surface...
Cool. Then you can just eat the bananas in the galley that the crew brought.
Seems like the only people bitching in this thread are the ones bitching to get the thread shut down.
This thread has actually been pretty...
That's how I rig mine, as well.
Haha! That makes more sense. Thanks for "straightening" that out!
Thanks for the report, Kil! Sounds like an amazing trip!
I was just going to ask why the angler tied their main line to the split ring and not the solid ring???
Thanks for the report!
Hoping the bite picks up here, soon!
Midshipmen. Excellent leopard shark bait.
That might work for surface irons and yo yo irons but not for flat-falls and poppers.
It's way easier to store poppers without their hooks and...
I have my Tac12ii on a UC 76 Predator...but would definitely like to pull on the new 80 Predator.
Damn, I'd take 3 and 4 if I was closer!
I'll probably catch flack for this, but some of the blame has to go to the passengers continuing to catch fish assuming that someone else will...
Poppers and flatfalls are a million times easier to store without the hooks on them.
That would be amazing (for the anglers, anyway) if it stayed under 20!
Great deal, too. I might have to consider this trip for next year.
Nano Special is what I think it stands for, but I'm not totally sure.
IM ksong (Kil Song) or post this in the Jigging and Popping forum. You should get your answer pretty quick.
I have the large size (green handle) and the extra large size (blue handle) and I use them both equally.
I'm kinda glad I don't live within 300 miles of SD. I'd be broke AF from hopping on all these trips.
Great write-up! Thanks for sharing. Some of my buddies from up here were supposed to be on that trip but they all bailed for some reason. I...
Hmmm, I don't know. Perhaps because people keep replying to the thread?
Oh yeah, will definitely be looking to add these two colors to my collection!
Ditto. I had never even thrown a surface iron until a 3.5 day trip I took last year on the Islander. After I landed a few 20lb YFT on bait I...
And I can vouch for Shon's comment because I saw a giant zip-loc bag full of jigs with his name on it at the Bob Sands both this year at...
"Be the rumor. Don't chase the rumor"
Agree with the PQ and Islander...with a stronger preference for the Islander due to it being a little bit cleaner and for having staterooms.
Anyone else have any more info on this? The link doesn't work for me and I can't find anything else on the net about the closure.
Ditto. Thanks for all the great info, fellas.
I'm on the Islander for 3.5 days, leaving July 26th and on the Polaris Supreme for the 8 Day Asshole Invitational, leaving October 20th.
I've caught legit 100lb batrays on 25lb Momoi.
Great deal. Surprised nobody has snatched these up yet.
It may have been mentioned......but I have short term memory loss, so not sure. :imdumb:
You should go post your question on Norcalkayakanglers.org. A lot of my buddies live down in Monterey and they'll hook you up.
But does the person who should get it, get it? ;)
Lol. There would be only a small number of passengers allowed, but definitely no limited loads!
Easiest way to ID a soupfin.
It's not a soupfin. As Pecci mentioned a soupfin's second dorsal and anal fins are directly opposite of each other, forming a diamond.
I recognize Capt Moe from The Obsession of Carter Andrews. :D
She's bad ass. Congrats on your trip.
I'm surprised nobody has taken this. People are always asking about jig storage. I hold 40+ surface/yo-yo irons in just the four outside pockets...
Man, that sucks. Too bad the Islander trip I'm booked on is sold out or I'd try to convince you to jump on that trip.
Thanks for the advice! I have both reels and didn't know you could switch out the spools.
I have one of these and love it. I put my heavy irons in the built in jig holder and I cut lengths of 1.5" thin plastic tubing to store two...
I'm glad I don't live in So-Cal or I'd be buying all kinds of shit that I don't need.
Ditto on the BH CB S-801H. I paired mine with a Gosa 8K because the 8k takes up a little bit more line per crank than the 10k.
I also have a BH...
Nice, dude. Congrats!
Damnit! I was just finishing up the sharpening of my pitch fork!!
I've had my 30lb Boga for 10+ years. 1) I'm a kayak fisherman and 2) The thing is lucky to get sprayed down with water after every trip is all you...
Posts like this make me so glad I have access to a 3D printer. :D
Odds are you probably already have and didn't even know it. Like I said before, I guess Reefer Madness really did its intended job when you guys...
You've obviously watched Reefer Madness too many times or you were joking. You have no idea how many people that are around you every day smoke....
The 3.5 day Islander trip is now full.
Hard to tell this far out. Could be anything from paddy hopping to spending three days at SCI lookin' for BFT.
Last year Capt. John opted not to...
Haha. I tried to keep it out of the Long Range forum but my little fan-girl followed me over here from one of the other boards.
There's two spots left on the 3.5 day limited load Islander trip I'm taking July 26 -30. If you can swing that trip I have tons of flatfalls,...
And he makes a hell of an after dinner drink! :D
I don't have any cool stories, but I will say that I've seen or smelled someone smoking or vaping on every single long range or kayak mothership...
Kevin is a great teacher and if I didn't already have a trip planned around my daughter's B-day I'd definitely be on this trip.
The Islander has a few open trips in the length you're looking for. My new rule of thumb is that I more than likely won't go on a multi day trip...
See my reply above about calling people idiots.
Also, do you have a story to tell?
Haha. Like I said. "Triggered".
Anyway. I don't want to clutter up this forum so go reply to the thread in the other forum if you want me to keep...
Hey, all I'm saying is that if you want to call people idiots and dumb-asses you should at least know how to spell.
If you just want to continue...
My God. What did I tell you in the last thread?
It's AN idiot...not A idiot. And it's YOU'RE, not YOUR. I'm really trying to help you, Kiddo....
What's so hard to comprehend? Like I said before - we all like stories. I love reading the stories about whoever the hell "Coach" is and all the...
Thank you for recalling an actual incident!
I smoke, but would never take any on a LR trip, or any other boat for that matter, simply out of...
Yes, I get that. I'm pretty sure TS gets that. Do you have a story to share?
There's plenty left to discuss!
Just like all of the "That Guy" posts and "On a Positive Note" posts....we want to hear the stories. Let's hear 'em.
See? That's better. Stick to words you know how to spell. At least you spelled douche right this time, Sport.
I'm sure plenty of people will chime in saying how wrong and disrespectful it is, etc., but TS is looking for ACTUAL instances where someone got...
LMAO. Pointing out your obvious lack of communication skills means I'm butt hurt? I was actually just trying to do you a favor. Calling people...
I was gonna say - I tip those things with squid and nail the lings and big reds up here with 'em.
Dude, I've really tried to ignore you, but you should probably learn how to communicate like an adult and AT LEAST learn how to spell before you...
And get ready to wish that you booked a 2.5, 3.5, or longer trip. :p:
I know I'm a little late, but I'll take all four, if still available.
They worked fairly well for the YFT on the troll during a July 3.5 day trip I went on last year.
Thanks, Gary! I love the Islander. Been on her for 6 kayak mothership trips and this will be my second offshore trip with Capt. John & crew.
Three people that really helped me out a ton on my first long range trip were Chartermaster Larry Brown, Long time LRer Ron Huth, and my man Super...
Haha. Yeah, TS....my rod is definitely a popping rod and not a jigging rod.
I have an almost brand new 8' Phenix Megalodon that I'd sell for fairly cheap, but it sounds like you might be looking for something a little less...
Just wondering if any other BDers were on this trip? My buddies I usually fish the Islander with are going with me on an 8 Day Polaris Supreme...
Nice! Thanks for the report.
Can't go wrong with the Black Hole. I have the CB801h in spinning and conventional, as well as a Cape Cod Special Popping rod.
Look at the idiot's post history and you'll see he's not even worth paying attention to.
I think they are both 8'6". One is a Phenix Megalodon and the other is a Black Hole CCS. They are made 2-piece for travel purposes and they break...
Black Hole 801H.
I fish two-piece slow-pitch jigging rods and two-piece popping rods. Does that count?
Those older Records are tanks and make good shallow water rockfish reels. I have three 60s.
Wow, that is amazing! I don't know Mike, but he sounds like a great man and the service he offers the LR community is incredible.
Got mine, too. Thanks, buddy!
I know Alan Tani runs, or used to run, a charter like that. Not sure which boat. SOA maybe?
PS - sorry for the de-rail, TS.
Wow, you really are a special one. Do you even know what aN Uncle Tom is?
Go back to your Tide Pod Challenge and leave the legit fishing...
I agree. As well as having the posting mentality of a 15 year old, you do seem like a douchebag, as well.
15 year old detected.
Haha. I think I would play the "new guy" in that situation and tangle up his line every chance I got. :madfire:
More room for 8' and over rods.
PayPal sent. Thanks, Frank!
I'll take the two xxl, if still available. PM me your info and i can PayPal you tomorrow morning.
I'm interested in any XL you might have.
Sorry, not sure on the price.
Yeah, definitely put your name on the waitlist for any trip you're really interested in. I had my name on the waitlist for three different trips...
I know it's a little less of a trip than you were inquiring about, but the Islander has a 3.5 day limited load trip at the end of July. I booked...
Seems to me like Garry is simply stating an opinion like everyone else in this thread. How did you get the sense that he's worried about...
6 or 7 of my homies from up here went down for the bite and 5 of 'em came back with monster WSB.
Well, he did start his summary with, Probably... ;)
Yes, there is now bait at the K dock.
And heeeere we go...
Damn, those are some giant dodos!
Thanks for the pics.
Thanks for all the info, er'body!
I ended up getting cabins 6 and 7 for my buddies and I. Cabins 4 and 5 were already taken.
Man, that sucks all the way around.
So stuff was going missing, people knew who the perpetrator was, and nobody did anything?
I'm not a tough guy or anything, but I probably...
I think the Polaris Supreme is the one "Big Boat" out of the fleet that still has a good selection of trips available.
Can anyone confirm that this isn't just some April Fool's shit? It seems like it was being talked about yesterday and it's on their website today....
Also wondering if it hit a jig or squid? Or both?
My post that you quoted was posted a week ago.
Just sayin'. :Pillow_Fi
Thank god! ;)
Mind if I ask what a trip like this costs? Ballpark? Or is it one of those things where if you have to ask you can't afford it?!
Save some fish for the A-Holes!
Just don't shine that UV light on your bunk linens...:eyepoppin
My local shop (Outdoor Pro Shop) has a decent selection of saltwater gear, otherwise I stop by Bob Sands on my way South or hit up the BD...
Polaris Supreme also has some 4, 5, and 6 day trips still open.
The Islander has one or two 3.5 day trips.
You get a "Like" for the use of the word tomfoolery.
As long as you don't type in all caps you're good.
Would be dope if they started up their kayak mother-ship trips again.
I was going to book a 3.5 day on the Islander, but I'm seeing if I can make the dates for this trip work, Super Kev!
I'm in that edition of Pier Fishing in California. Been a member at PFIC.com since '98, I think.
There's a picture of me in the Berkeley Pier...
I know I'm late to the party, but I'll take it if you wanna ship it.
You're killin' me, Jake. That's a perfect match of the Predator you wrapped for me.
I have the H model, paired with a lexa 400 and it's one of my favorite combos for throwing surface irons. I haven't pulled on or fished the MH,...
Thanks! They're not actually mine, but I run the 3D print lab at my work and it's not a problem to throw an extra couple of parts on any jobs I'm...
Sounds like my kind of trip! :rockin:
Ooooh, that's purdy!
Rick - can your software save a part as an .stl file? If so I can also print the part if you don't mind sending me the file.
Indeed! I'm bored at work.
See what I did there?
I'm 100% aware that this isn't about typing in all caps. It was a passive aggressive attempt at bashing Jamie. And go back and read through this...
Damn, if I was in your area I'd scoop that up.
Bump for a great deal.
I have two Form 2 SLA printers and a Projet 7000hd. If the printed part Rick has graciously made for you is not strong enough I can print it in an...
Jesus Christ. I want all of you to take a deep breath and really feel how lucky you are that SOMEONE TYPING IN ALL CAPS IS THE BIGGEST THING YOU...
Can't be too many "Asshole Invitationals" out there!
Not sure about that, but I know the charter master's name is Dallas. I just talked to him for over half an hour. Sounds like a great guy and I...
I'm on the trip right before yours. See you at the docks.
Thanks for all the info, fellas. I just booked the Oct 20 A.H.I. trip. IF the boat gets 'Lupe permits and IF the trip goes there, hopefully most...
Best bet for me would be Bodega Bay or Tomales Bay for surfperch. Too early in the year to target leopards. There's a bunch of nearby spots I...
I am more than likely going to book this trip, as well. Hopefully see you in October!
Anyone know if the AHI trip is the one where they rig up the boat with speakers and play old school rock music?
Also, taking into consideration...
Right on, Tom. Thanks again for the info. I'd love to put my name on the waitlist for your trip, but I got 3 or 4 of my buddies comin' with me...
LMAO. Honesty and integrity.
How many times have you been banned, bro?
And who the hell cares, anyway. Do you feel vindicated now, SOA?
Grab a rod and hit the surf!
I recommend the Islander.
Go to the websites of the various boats you are interested in and look at their schedules. A lot of the boats will...
Thanks for the info, Tom.
I'll ask when I call tomorrow morning.
I'll let you know what trip we decide on. It'd be nice to chuck some jigs with ya. I saw your bag of JRIs at the Fred Hall Show. :D
Same here. I'm not interested in fishing for cows again at all. Would rather target the skinnies, YT, and sub-100lb YFT.
I'm down for all three, but waiting to hear back from some friends to see what dates work best for them.
Much appreciated, Craig!
The know-it-alls comment was directed to ALL of BD's (and every other forum I visit, for that matter) know-it-alls....not just the...
Does anyone have a picture of the bunk lay-out on the Polaris Supreme or know if all the bunks face the same way? I've seen the image in Jeff's...
No doubt. It's funny watching some of the know-it-alls come out of left field with "information" that is incorrect. Read the regs.
There is no...
No, he was too busy for a pic and an autograph! :D
I think you meant, "SERIOUSLY STEVE????"
It was great seeing you on Wednesday, Jamie! You are one hell of an ambassador for our sport.
I almost got into some fisticuffs myself yesterday. I was in the bathroom taking a leak and I guess some kids were messing around and bangin' on...
See you tomorrow, Jamie!
I have a Tranx 500HG, Saragosa 8K, Saragosa 10K, and a Twin Power 14K.
For working poppers I'd grab, in order - TP14K, Gosa 8K, Gosa 10K, Tranx.
If you go, be sure to check out the Black Hole Booth and the Bob Sands Booth. I had a blast last year and am taking my wife this year.
Great deal! Wish I was closer.
Damn, wish I would've saw this sooner.
Justin and ex-Capt Jason of the Islander.
Justin and Tanner on a 2.5 day Islander mothership trip. Can't remember the young kids name. He looks about 10 in that picture but I think he was...
Islander Crew lowering the bait/beer delivery skiff.
Jared used to work on the Islander.
'Keep your lines tight and your minds right!'
Geezer preppin' up some sashimi on a 3.5 day Islander kayak mothership trip.
Hey Kil, do you remember what kind of reel Pierre was using on his conventional slow pitch set-up?
That's what I was going to recommend. I think I have an old 30h that has served me well and has taken all my 30+lb kayak YT.
Abu Records are...
He was referring to you, as well.
Only 12 posts here and this is the image you want to portray?
See you there, Kil!
The Islander is another great mid range boat worth taking a look at....although I haven't seen their schedule posted anywhere, yet.
Jamie and all of the folks at Bob Sands are the best! Even those of us who live 400+ miles away are catered to and treated like regulars.
You're livin' the good life, Kil!
Thanks for the report and pictures.
Two years ago Billy MFin' Santiago was playing deckhand on the PQ and kept poppin' his head around the corner of the wheelhouse and trying to...
I want to say it was Daniel.
For shorter trips I always liked Geezer's Apricot chicken on the Islander. RIP Geezer. Love that guy.
Two of the best meals I've ever eaten were...
Man, if Cedros and Benitos were still open I'd be all over this trip.
I've fished with Greg at San Clemente Island via the Islander and after seeing him fish there I can pretty much guarantee the above catch was...
I originally had 70 the one time I was on the PQ for a 2.5 day. It was loud and smelled like raw sewage. So much so that it made me sick in the...
If we ever got too unruly they would banish us to the corner property. Always with a smile.
Not too many places let you get down like this!
Good times at the Dolphin.
Thanks for the update!
I know. I was just playing the victim role. ;)
That is terrible news. I've stayed there every single time I've ever taken a boat out of SD. The owner is one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet....
Thanks for the great pictures and reports from your beautiful state, Bob!
Man, if the Condor had state rooms for all passengers I'd be all over this.
Oh, I also forgot passenger count! Can't beat a max passenger load of 26 on a nice, big, boat!!
I've only been on one long range boat, so I don't have much to compare to, but I was blown away by how quiet, smooth, and comfortable the Intrepid...
You can also park at the Dolphin Motel for $10 a night. I was on the same 10 day trip as Kevin and that's where I parked. Since our trip was in...
Another vote for the UC Swimbait Finatic. I have my Lexa 400 on a RUC711H. I'd put the 300 on the M or MH.
A little bit more expensive then the...
Thanks, Shawn! The goody bags rocked last year.
Thanks for the report!
Is that $15 for a smoothie??
I went crazy last year, so probably not getting too much this year. Will update my subscription to Fish Taco and get my JRI jigs from Jamie at Bob...
I'll make things easy for you and you can bring the dorado and YFT up with the other dorado mount.
Sent you an e-mail. Thanks, buddy!
Are these still available? Interested!
I love my Talica 10 for bait and Lexa 400 for surface irons. A 40lb tuna is probably close to pushing the limits of the Lexa, though.
Damn, that is a beautiful line-up!
You guys friggin' rock, Jamie. PM coming soon!!
Yup! Bringing wifey with me this coming show so she can check out the jewelry, art, and expensive sunglasses.
I'm going the first two days this year.
Also - bring lots of cash. I don't know if it's a regular thing, but last year A LOT of the vendors were...
Baaaahhhhh! Nice goat!
Yup, Jamie and crew are the best. A stop by Bob Sands is on the agenda any time I head South!
Good luck down there, you guys. Just went through the same thing up here and even though my family and I were lucky and all remained safe, it was...
After seeing Let em eat 74's 16VISX I think I'd like one of those. Just in case any future 10 day trips I take turn into cow hunts again!
Those blue guides are slick!
Another beauty, Jake! I love the spiral effect!
I've caught monkeyface eels, a black perch, and a few striped perch from shore that were all bigger than the current CA records.
Islander 2.5 or 3.5 day.
It was great spending 10 days with you guys!
Although the fishing turned into exactly what I hoped it wouldn't, I still had a good time and met a...
Really? Those are GREAT prices. I'd take all three if I didn't already have them!
I'm bringing a spool of 130lb flouro.....and a small spool of Momoi 50lb mono if you want to risk it, Kevin. :D
I got plenty of bombs to lose!...
Capt. Kevin was a huge part of why I decided to take my first long range trip on the Intrepid. I was also sad to hear he retired, but I wish the...
The Intrepid shot down there earlier this month and came up empty.
We awoke today to a beautiful...
I agree with Rancho Leonero. I spent a week kayak fishing there and had a great time. The rooms are thatch huts, but they are clean and very...
Bad ass stick!
Good luck on your trip!!
Clear as mud?
Two bad ass rods, there Jake!
I love that marbling on the second one!!
Nice! Congrats, and thanks for the report.
Thanks for the sharing!
Right on. Thanks!
Great write up!
What poppers were working for you guys?
Looking forward to picking my favorite in two weeks! Got a good selection of Cpt. Jimmy, JRI Hooicide, and a few misc. bombs and four set-ups...
So, after reading this whole thread, it seems like just about everything that has ever been brought up in past threads about this subject is...
I have a pretty open schedule, so I put myself on three different waiting lists before I finally pulled the trigger on my scheduled trip....
2 More Weeks, Bro!
Hopefully I Wont be In Your troll Rotation.....
Great write-up! Thanks for sharing.
Great, informative, report! Thanks for sharing.
I always thought that was a hooker intruder.
Holy shit, dude. Nice bug...if you can even call it that.
Another incredible job!
Thanks for the report and pics, fellas!
You mean you posted it so WE ALL could get our fix.
Thanks for taking the time to report.
Thanks for the detailed report! Got me thinking I should print out a template for my notes on my upcoming trip.
I was going to say - if there's a female there that is that big, then the local male must be gigantic!!
Received my poppers today. They look great.
Thanks again, Kevin!
LMAO. I love the fact that people feel compelled to post conspiracy theories even after Drew took his time to post what really happened.
And if I...
Thanks for the report! I was on the wait list for that trip for awhile before I decided to switch to the Larry Brown 10 day.
You rock, Jamie! Pm sent.
Ha! 100% agree. I'm a little closer than you, but still 500 miles away.
Hittin' Bob Sands on Oct 28th, though!
Isn't it dove season right now? Maybe it was tired of getting shot at and flew out to sea. :D
Good questions. From the pics the reel looks like a Tac12ii or Tac16ii, it was obviously on a UC rod, but which model?
Amazing catch for sure!
As far as the poll above, I would rather catch variety on my upcoming trip. I've caught tuna up to 40lbs and as of now I honestly have little...
I don't know you but would like to wish you the best in fighting the good fight! Good luck on your upcoming surgery and hopefully you have a hell...
Definitely a gopher.
No report? ;)
Great seller. I placed my order at 8:30AM and had a tracking number by noon.
I'll take one Lot #1.
I'm new to this madness so I appreciate the fact that all of this long range related info is in the San Diego Long Range forum.
As a long time...
Good luck, fellas! I'm heading out on the Intrepid the day after.
Right on. Thanks, Rob!
I'll take it.
Bad ass line-up!
I'm also looking for a UC bomb/jig stick, so I also appreciate everyone's input!!
Great report. Thanks for sharing!!
Awesome video. Thanks for posting!
Good luck, Soda!
I am on the Intrepid Larry Brown ten day departing the day you return. I'll try to introduce myself at the docks.
Nice pics!.......Nice pics!.......Nice pics!.......Nice pics!.......Nice pics!.......Nice pics!.......
My wife and I love unicorns!
You guys rock, Jamie!
I'll be stopping by the day before my 10 day (Oct 28) to blow a bunch of money on a bunch of stuff I probably don't need.
The search feature is your friend.
Texas Tackle seem to get the most votes. I have the two larger sizes and they work fine.
Calico for tacos, ling for FnC.
From the reports it seems like the Intrepid has stayed local for the first three days of its current 8 day trip, but I'm just guessing and...
Sick! Love that gunmetal reel seat!
Great seller, y'all. Somebody get 'em before I change my mind.
I wish I could get on a PM schedule! :_diarrhea_:
Thanks for the report, TS!
The look on your boy's face says it all!
Yeah. Looking' good!
I'm hopin' to take a trip on the X next year.
Looks like that's what the Intrepid did on its current 8 day.
Looks like a young lady on the Intrepid just landed a 228# BFT on day 2 of an 8 day.
Hell yeah! Great Pic!
This part was great! LOL
Congrats on your first tuna on your boat!!
Haha. Great attitude. Mind sharing what boat you DH for so I can make sure to never book a trip on it?
Thanks for the detailed report, Jamie!
Don't forget to check out the awesome snorkeling! There's great rock formations right there just off the beach.
Great to hear! I'm hoping to book a trip on the Big X some time next season.
Thanks for the report and pics!
I guess I should have bought the whole inventory when my local shop had them on clearance for $130, instead of buying just one! >:(
That's awesome that the Capt. comp'ed you guys another trip when he didn't have to.
Still kicking myself to this day for not going on a 5 day Islander kayak mothership trip to Cedros that my friends put together a few years back....
I haven't had a chance to pull on one yet. Hopefully when I make it down to SD this October!
What are you fishing for and from what platform?
If we're just throwing out suggestions for whatever, then my vote is for the Black Hole CB801H.
Bad ass! Congrats!
WoW! More incredible work!
I hope they stick around for another 2 months!
Good luck and please post a report! I'm on trip 21 at the end of October, so will be watching the reports like a hawk. (Ha...like I'm not already!)
Thanks for sharing.
Me three! :Zombie_Ro
Beautiful work. You two are both great artists, Jake.
One man team!
Nice solo dodos!
Me too, Kevin! Counting the days.
You guys are killin' me.
67 days 'til my next trip....
Another vote for the Islander if you can get her on a limited load trip. I was out on the Islander for a 3.5 day trip three weeks ago and there...
That leopard shot is bad-ass!
Looks like a successful photo hunt. Congrats!
Haha...I'd love to hear you explaining that to the DFW while they were writing your ticket.
Have you been out on the Excel recently by any chance?
Jesus, you guys are magicians.
Much respect to all you great rod builders on this site.
Looks like a perfect sized fish for eating to me. Would you be more impressed if he kept a 150lber and wasted most of it?
Thanks for the report,...
Congrats on your boat's first dodo!
Got any pics of the sharks?
I think it was a friendly reminder for all of us that a little bit of punctuation goes a long way!
I have the two bigger sizes of the Texas Tackle SRPs and they work great.
These are established laws.
You guys are complaining like this is something new the military just made up.
Thanks for the info, D-Dog!
Earth isn't the whole world; and it's not round...it's a sphere.
I'm wondering why nobody likes the Phenix Megalodon?
I use one for popping and other than it being a little heavy, I have no issues with it.
I have one of the bigger models and it is pretty easy to "pop", but it sure is tiring. I may pick up one of the 120mm, but that's a huge weight...
Thanks for the awesome pictures and report.
Love your stoke, bra!
Awesome. Thanks for the report!
We saw you guys from the Islander on Tuesday and Wednesday. It mighta been you guys they dumped the bait tanks...
Thanks for the great report and congrats on making some life-long memories for you and your boy!
I just got back from a 3.5 day trip on the Islander. Capt. John opted to not mess with the little rat YT and dodos, so we made the long run (for a...
I hope so! My 76 Predator is going on its first trip in a few hours. Hoping to get one of these better grade YT on it in the next 3.5 days....
I'm in the exact same situation. I've read over and over on here how you need to ride all of the boats and find one that feels like home. Being...
Bill - I'm heading out the door on a 3.5 day trip in a few, but I will PM you some ideas. I grew up fishing Bodega and Tomales bays. If the...
The islander always filleted our fish on 3.5 day kayak mothership trips, but we always fished SCI.
I'm heading out on a 3.5 day islander trip...
Great report and pics!
Thanks for sharing.
I can't offer any suggestions, but your thread got me wondering how many times I've thought to myself, "Just One More Reel is All I Need"....
Thanks for the great report!
I'm on the Islander for a 3.5 day this weekend. Hoping the conditions don't get any worse than what's already...
LMAO! I booked a 10 day in October and bought so much new shit that I did the same as you and booked a 3.5 day to test it all out!
Thanks, Lake! I plan on fishing the surface iron as well. Heading to the local shop to line up my Lexa 400 today, so I can get in a bunch of...
Thanks for the info! All I have are the big boys. May need to pick up a few 160's before I head out!
Thanks for the report! Congrats on the awesome fishing. I think if I catch just one YT on the popper and one on the yo-yo or flat-fall on my...
Man, I don't know if I woulda been able to put the popper set-up down.
Awesome fishing. Thanks for the report!
Thanks for the great report! Leaving on a 3.5 day in 5 days and this report has me even more stoked.
Nice grade of fish!
Thanks for the report! Keeps all of us with trips coming up foaming at the mouth.
Thanks for the report. Heading out on a 3.5 day on the Islander in 10 days. Can't wait!
Did you bring it up on the dock or wait to post about it here?
Also, did YOU catch the tuna you mentioned or did THE BOAT catch 10 BFT over...
Says 195 right on the bottom of the package. 195s = 4.25oz.
Great seller, BTW!
I know this question was asked years ago and I'm definitely no expert, but I've been practicing underhand and overhand casts from the "tower"...
My reply above was mostly in response to swami and his list of ridiculous things to get panties in a bunch over.
But yeah, I could probably use a...
If I was the type of person who let petty-ass things, that affected me in absolutely no way get on my nerves, I think I would steer clear of...
SLEEK is the first word that popped into my mind.
Go spout this nonsense on the Long Range board and see what the opinion of some of the best fisherman on this site is regarding using spinning...
Could it possibly be due to the fact that A LOT of people really fucking love cake?
This is my dorado! There are many like it but this one is mine!
Thanks For the reports, fellas.
Thanks for the report, but some punctuation would have been nice! ;)
Whew...dodged another bullet.
I can't be the only one that sees shit like this and thinks to myself, "OK, I don't need these f***ing things, but...
Great move, IMO.
I have a 3.5 day coming up at the end of this month and I'd rather spend that time at San Clemente fishing for YT, halibut, and...
Elephant Rock Pier or Paradise Pier
I'm also looking forward to the release of the Tesoro, but for all you know they could be released and have all kinds of problems.
Why don't you...
Gettin' it poppin' on the old school conventional set-up. Nice!!
Thanks for the report.
Hell yeah! Way to do that homework to find 'em and way to throw the whole arsenal at 'em to get 'em to bite!
I have a 3.5 day trip and a 10 day...
Props for the detailed report.
You'll more than likely spend most of your time at San Clemente Island.
That trip was on my short list while trying to pick my 1st long range excursion, but I ended up picking a 10 day on the Intrepid.
Perfect example of why BD forums could use a "dislike" feature.
Awesome fish, fellas.
Thanks for the great report and pics!
With this set-up do you just tie your flouro leader directly to the ring on the circle hook?
Sounds good, bro!
How much for everything but these two:?
Pelagic Warrior Crusader 150
Bertox- 250F- Fusilier
That Tiger Wrap is SICK!
Good luck and tight lines, fellas!
We have the same special kind of family over at NCKA. I haven't even brought my kayak to the last four or five tournaments I've attended because I...
Just bumping this old thread because it was a pleasure to read. I'm 49 pages into the archives and read a lot of threads about THAT GUY and read a...
BTW - Got that Bullpop in my arsenal. It was the first popper I ever bought. Guess I picked a good one.
Thanks for sharing!
Had my previous order of jigs packed and shipped within hours.
Hell yeah! WTG, fellas!
Love your stoke!
Great to hear! I've been out to my local waters every chance I get fishing for sharks/rays but, more importantly, am also practicing throwing and...
I'm on a 3.5 day at the end of the month and I do not want to spend the whole trip rollin' the dice on bft.
Thanks for the report!
Yeah, no worries, bro.
If I hadn't just recently purchased a TP14000 I'd be all over your Stella. I'm surprised it hasn't sold yet.
Thanks for the report.
I sure do hope that on my upcoming 3.5 day trip they spend at least one day NOT trying to get tight lipped bft to bite.
I seent it! :-)
Or perhaps the blood was from the huge gash between the shark's pectoral fins?
I think most of us would have no problem with a leopard being...
After it was gaffed or had its throat slit?
Awesome YT, BTW.
Jeez...where's the "dislike" button again?
Not true. Re-read the regs.
Your boat doesn't have a trashcan?
If you wouldn't have thrown your garbage in the ocean you wouldn't have this problem.
Unfortunately, none of my kayak rods are suitable for our 10 day. My heaviest kayak set-up is maybe a 30lb set-up. No need for anything over 10lbs...
Some buddies and I are coming down for this trip. We've all been on half-a-dozen Islander kayak mothership trips, but this will be our first time...
Now THAT'S gangster!
I'll help push carts and sort fish with you after our ten day, Kevin!
PM'ed on the rods. Where in Nor-Cal are you?
I haven't tried them yet, but I've heard great things about the Simms face masks.
Thanks for the report, pics, and vids!
I'm starting off on the Intrepid, but definitely plan on fishing the X sometime soon.
Dude, every single one of us wants nothing more than to have a bend in our rod. You have a rod that always has a bend in it and you want to return...
I had a blast catching YT up to 20lbs from my kayak with my PT50. The 80 should serve you well.
Barramundi at Alioto's and grouper (not sure which kind) at SeaBlue in Vegas.
Back to the original question:
I'm guessing this had something to do with it.
D'oh! My first double post...
If that's where they're at now they've had a pretty good pick on some decent YT.
Trip #19 or #21?
I'm on trip #21.
We have a SF Bay halibut tournament on the same day up here.
If you have a kayak division next year I will definitely try to make it.
For breakfasts - pancakes, grilled croissant sandwiches (ham n cheese, turkey n cheese), ham or sausage n egg Mcmuffins, waffles. Even just having...
Too late to the LR game to be familiar with these, but based on everything I've read here and in the archives I can't wait to get my paws on one.
Another beauty, Jake!
You're not going to post up the bad ass Predator you just wrapped? ;)
Those are sexxy!
I call bullshit.
I'm still months away from my trip and I'm already checking BD for fish reports at least five times a day. ;)
Sorry about your trip(s). I was very close to hopping on that trip, too.
Ahhh, got it! Thanks for the info!
I'm a Star Wars nerd and one of the other awesome rod wrappers here at BD was going to wrap a themed rod for...
May I ask how you got your decals without running into copyright issues? Would really love some Star Wars themed rods, but can't seem to...
You're one hell of a stand up guy, Jerry. It'd be an honor to share the rail with you some day.
Of course! But TS kind of makes it sound like it's being touted as strictly an MLPA type of closure solely to protect the marine life, but in...
Good stuff, Kil!
Thanks for sharing.
Have you read the wording of the closure or are you just basing your post off of hearsay?
The wording is pretty transparent in that it mentions...
Lookin' pretty damn good to me! Nice work.
Little yeller I caught while trying to get some bonito to hit a Big Hammer at San Clemente. Probably not as good a catch as the halibut, though....
27lb halibut while fishing for calicoes at San Clemente.
It might help to know what kind of platform you're fishing from. Can you chase your fish down? If not, then the reels you have listed...
What are you fishing for?
Those guides are DOPE!
Sometimes I wish I didn't have a conscience. Could've swung this trip but couldn't see leaving the fam for a week in June, then again for 10 days...
And there's only SEVENTEEN of them!!!
Holy rail space....
Thanks for the info on the poppers used.
Hopefully I'll have some good pictures for you soon, Kil.
I picked up a Cape Cod Slow Pitch B632H2MF, a Challenger Bank C801HS, and a Challenger...
Good stuff, Kil. Looks like a lot of fun!
Right on! Thanks for the report!
Here's the original video I mentioned.
There's a video of Kil lifting 25lbs worth of milk jugs with these rods posted somewhere on here.
Edit* - see below.
Exactly why I chose a 10 day for my first LR trip.
Great prices. GLWS!
Yeah, just threw that out there because I'm not too into sushi either, but I like a good poke salad!
Maybe try poke?
Anything on a popper from my kayak in Panama.
Or a wahoo on the Intrepid this October.
Man, that is awesome!
That is awesome. Nothing like company owners actively seeking the voice of the customer.
I was wondering the same myself. I've been interested in just about everything that TS has posted lately, but most of it is priced...
Dude, you're stoked! Congrats on making the trip and have a great time!
What's the passenger load on this trip? Didn't see it on their website.
Great jigs. I also picked some up from the original seller.
If I didn't stock up then I would've taken all of these. Great deal!
I've been scouring the archives here for the last few months and Big Fish Transport has come up quite a few times in the last year.
No votes for BH801H?
Keep fighting that good fight, Henry!
I'll take the poppers if you don't mind PP and shipping them.
If not, no worries.
Are you allowed to spill the beans on when it will be available?
And I agree, effin' sexy!
That is how a lot of guys fish their flatfalls. Check out the stickied post at the top of the jigging and popping forum.
New guys, old guys, blah, blah, blah.
You do realize some "new guy" could just as easily (and rightfully) say, "Well it's always the old guys who...
Feel free to quote your previous post and show us where you mentioned that you informed the other passengers.
Anyway, you are correct. By reading...
I'll take 'em.
LOL. You can always tell when someone is not getting enough attention at home.
9 more spots. I've secretly got the OK for time away from work. Now I gotta work on my old lady. :-)
Jeez, reading some of these posts just reinforces why I took up kayak fishing long ago! :D
So, you knew an entire boatload of people were about to eat a meal that could have potentially made them all violently I'll and you didn't bother...
Thanks for the report, Jeff!
And thanks for the others chiming in with your honest opinions. It almost seems taboo around here to give bad...
What you have there is the world's most vibrant colored shiner perch!
I've never seen one so colorful!
If you're a smoker it's definitely worth it to hit one of the little markets for a mini torch!
Way to get your little man out there!
I agree. I think pierfisherman should have to take the same test that YOU took to get YOUR fishing license. Fuck it, while we're at it, let's make...
I'll take it if Morfius doesn't.
Right on, Jim. Congrats on the success of your first tournament!
Thanks for the report and pics. A few of us from NCKA used to come down for the...
Way to get your little buddy out there!
I agree. I've been buying a ton of stuff from here lately and have yet to have a negative experience. I'd like to keep it that way.
Picked mine up today and they look great.
Terrible choice of words for that article title, BTW!!!
No wonder you were confused. It should be titled "Pacific Halibut Season Opens in CA".
Two different species. The Point Arena area is pretty much the Southern limit for Pac buts, but I'm sure some have been caught further South.
Good luck you guys and gals!
Man, if I could swing the time off work I'd be all over this. This trip was actually in my top three, but I ultimately decided on a 10 day trip...
I was lucky enough to have Billy working as a deckhand on the Pac Queen trip I took last year. He saved one of my tuna after it ran under the boat...
Nothing like grown men basing the weight of their words on how many likes they received on an internet forum....
I'm on a 10 day trip in November and I plan on giving the bottom dwellers a shot during any fishable "down-time". I'd love to bag a grouper or two!
I'll take 1 of each color. PM me your PP info, please.
Damn, great deal! If I didn't already have one I'd be all over it.
I think it's pretty friggin' cool that they bought the whole damn boat dinner.
That's awesome. Great work.
My best from a "big boat" is a 42lb YFT on 20lb Seguar flouro.
Yeah, specs for rod, please!
If you don't have any luck I'll take it for $420 shipped.
I've never been there but can't wait for my first chance to stop by and check it out. All of the employees I met a the FHS were awesome.
