All my bait and jig rods, up to 50#, are 8 feet long. I feel like I can cast them more smoothly and they take up more line on the hook set, unless I’m using circle hooks.

I fished a Calstar 196-8 with a Newell G220 or Trinidad 14 for albacore if they were being difficult. 15# smoke izorline. It is a fun combo.

The louder ones have more Newell magic.

The last trip I was on, 25, 40 and 60 seemed to be a pretty versatile quiver. 25 and 40 for fly lining and the 60 for sinker rig. The heavier outfits ended up staying in the rack, for the most part. I also use 50# mostly for yo-yo.

Calstar 6480 or Calstar 800H.

I like P-Line cxx. It’s strong and very abrasion resistance. A little stiff with some memory, but I think the positives outweigh the negatives. Maxima Ultragreen is good too.

The 196 might be a better choice for 15#. The 270-8, not the 270-8H would be a better option for 20#.

I have the 6480h also and use it as a 40# bait rod. As mentioned before, the 270-8h can fish 20-30, although it does feel a little soft for 30.
