      Hi Mark,
We chatted about his before, I wanted to get your advice. I am solid up to #80 and am looking for a top end set up #100-130. Thinking VISX 20 and I believe you mentioned a 76 Viper?

The Viper 76 is great for 100-130.

Hi, I’ve been reading various posts about the Lexa 400 series reel and want to purchase one. They come in several different retrieve speeds (5.1, 6.1, 7.1). Can you tell me which model (speed) you prefer and why? I would likely be using it for a bait reel and likely a medium weight jig reel as well. I would probably fill with 50lb. braid.

Lastly, do do prefer the Lexa over the Komodo?

      Thanks!

      Marc S.

The Tilefish is an 8’er. There are plenty of appropriate rods if you like shorter rods too.

What rod do you recommend for bombs and raiders? I know you favor Phenix rods. No problem. I do not want to spring for a Shimano Tranx. I'm a Peen man. I'm thinking of a Fathom 25NLD2 or 30LD2 loaded with 40# braid and a 4' mono leader. What are your thoughts?

I tend to use TranX’s with 50# for bombs and my Fth25nld2 and Avet JX 6/3 for bait. Popular bomb rods are a UC Tilefish or other fast rods like the Phenix psw809xhj or phd760xh. I’ve used all of these for bombs. For bait I use my 40# rods like the UC us76hp or Phenix psw700xh. I’d look hard at the UC Tilefish if you want a bomb rod for a conventional reel.
