    More of a biology question

The adult fish move around a lot.... even the benthic species. For example there have been multiple sebastes tagged at offshore seamounts like the 43. Several of the rock fish tagged at the 43 were later recaptured as far away as San Pedro and the Coronado Islands.... sometimes as soon as a...

    BFT Tuna eating Salps

Tuna are opportunistic for the most part and will eat pretty much anything that they come across. But salps are likely incidentally eaten when foraging on other stuff like the red crabs... salps don't have much energetic benefit to tuna as they are low in caloric content. But yes I have found...

    Basking sharks in the channel?

Nice! They are amazing fish! Not many around these days. For many reasons their population is much lower than it was historically.... both leatherback turtles and basking sharks used to be much more common off California. That said Leatherback turtles frequent Monterrey Bay every year and are...

    Weather projections

Wind wise yes Saturday looks better. But the left over sea state caused by the blow Thursday and Friday will be pretty sloppy. Two days of strong wind usually means the day or two after are lumpy bumpy. Looks like you have a Bahia though so I'm sure you will be safe.

    Tribute 4/9 Offshore

Whoever you talked to was wrong. 50 % of bluefin reach maturity at around 150 lbs. The other 50% mature later. The fish return to the Western Pacific Ocean to mature and spawn. All the fish here are pretty much babies that havent spawned yet. Even the 200 plus lb fish.
