The guys who head up Fishworks Proven Products know what anglers need when it comes to their apparel. Lawrance “Squig” Quigley, the company founder, has fished up and down the West Coast and Baja for more than 30 years. He spent 12 years working on long-range boats and he saw a need for technical fishing clothing that functioned well and could stand up to the rigors of hard-core use. He used his fishing background and his design sense to begin Fishworks, and started producing casual clothing for anglers that fit a technical need.
Fishworks Clipperton Shorts
Fishwork’s latest products show continue to improve upon the company’s line of quality gear. The Stretch Clipperton board short is made from Fishwork’s Quatro Stretch fabric. You really have to touch this fabric to get an appreciation of how lightweight and strong it is. It’s not going to fall apart, but because it has some stretch it won’t bunch up on you either. These shorts and built to last, and super comfortable, especially when you’re cooking under a tropical sun all day. It also dries fast.
The Clipperton shorts feature double plier pockets, a locking zipper and front and back pockets. They also come in metallic screen prints. You’ll feel just as comfortable wearing them around town as you will wearing them on the boat.
The Southern California sect has two necessities when it comes to clothing — comfortable, functional board shorts for those hot summer days and warm hoodies for those cold rides out to the fishing grounds in the grey light.
The new Fish Tech Hoody definitely fits the bill for keeping you warm against the morning chill. But this isn’t your typical hoodie. It’s water resistant so it will keep you dry in light weather conditions. It also features a removable hood. So if you the hood is getting in your way you can just unzip it and take it off, then put it back on when needed. There’s also a special holder for your iPod and an eyelet to run the headphone chord through.
One of the smartest features of the hoody was probably borrowed from the alpine ski industry — the thumbholes at the cuffs. You won’t have to worry about the sleeves creeping up on you. A smart design from a smart company that understands what fishermen want.
