How To Use Relief Shading To Find Rockfish Spots

Anyone that’s spent any time fishing rockfish on their own boat knows that finding a good spot is like looking for a needle in a haystack. In the past, a rockfish trip on my boat usually consisted of a couple of hours fishing known spots and another three or four spent driving around and looking for new ones.

While that practice served me well enough to consistently catch fish, with the release of Navionic’s new Relief Shading, I realize all of that time and effort was wasted.

Relief Shading, which is available in both the Platinum Plus cards and on the Navionics Boating App, now shows every rock, ridge, and wreck along the entire coast. Add in the detailed overlay of Sonar Charts contour lines to show you the depth you’re looking at and you can now prospect for new spots from the comfort of your couch.
