Summertime conditions are in full effect, and the kelp patty fishing is HOT! In this week’s Sportboat Roundup, Tonie shares the go-to setup for this style of fishing and also includes a tutorial on the Palomar knot. This is an extremely beneficial knot to know because you are able to quickly retie your rig since the deckhands will likely be running around the boat helping other customers during a hot bite.
She wants us to know that the fish aren’t strictly under the kelp patty during these bites. They are on the boat chasing the chum so it is crucial to get your bait in the water quickly during these scenarios. There is no need to make extremely long casts, as these fish will likely be following the boat even as it drifts off of the patty as a chum line is established.
Take these tips with you on your next trip out and good luck!
