Tropic Star Lodge’s 7th annual Roosterfish Tournament is scheduled for May 18th – May 23rd of 2023. This will be a 100% release light tackle tournament where anglers will have the chance to win prizes, meet new fishing friends, AND potentially qualify for the Offshore World Championship. The 7th annual Roosterfish Tournament will consist of three days of tournament fishing, plus one fun day to fish offshore for a wide variety of other species.

Anglers oftentimes venture abroad in search of their fish of a lifetime. Such a fish is subjective however, and varies depending on one’s proclivity towards a particular species, method of fishing, or even scenery. Any uncommonly large fish of a particular species that is caught could be deemed a “trophy fish”. Fishing far offshore is not necessarily synonymous with the quality of a catch or the experience surrounding it. Panama is a place where trophy fish of varying sizes, colors, and species can be found surprisingly close to land, and there is no better place than the world-renowned Tropic Star Lodge to chase these inshore species.
What is incredible about Tropic Star’s fishery is the consistently large sizes of many of the species that are frequently caught there.
Located in Piñas Bay Panama, Tropic Star’s location within the uninhabited and remote Darien Jungle is juxtaposed by the pristine and untouched waters adjacent to the lodge. Offering some of the most sought-after inshore gamefish, Piñas Bay and its surrounding waters teem with Snapper, Roosterfish, Trevally, Grouper, Tarpon, and many lesser known yet beautiful species. Guests have released up to 15 different species in a single day of fishing, pointing to the dynamic nature of the fishing grounds. What is incredible about Tropic Star’s fishery is the consistently large sizes of many of the species that are frequently caught there. At Tropic Star, Grouper, Tarpon, Jacks, and Roosterfish can all top out at a whopping 100 pounds With Cubera Snapper reaching up to 70 pounds, and hard fighting Bluefin Trevally growing to 30lbs; your chances of catching the fish of a lifetime for any of these aforementioned species becomes a very real possibility at Tropic Star Lodge.

Roosterfish are plentiful in Piñas Bay’s waters during May, and the annual Tropic Star Lodge Roosterfish Tournament occurs every year from May 18th through the 23rd. Last year, 96 Roosterfish were caught and released by the teams over three days of incredible fishing despite some less than ideal conditions. The biggest Roosterfish of the tournament was over 50 pounds! Not to mention on the offshore Fun Day of fishing, angler Scott Hickman took home the fish of the day with a 400 pound Black Marlin.
