Last year I got to review Cuda’s Titanium Bonded Fillet Knife along with other great tools and it turned out to be a great knife for the price point, but now I’ve had the opportunity to fillet some fish with the new Cuda Professional Knives. They have a higher price tag, but the quality is higher to match.
The Cuda Professional grade knives have a Titanium Bonded, Non-Stick USA 40A Carpenter Steel, these knives provide the ultimate level of edge retention and corrosion-resistance.
Titanium Bonded is not painted or plated but an application of a unique formulation of titanium, chromium and nitride to the cutting blades that actually penetrates and treats the metal to create a permanent bond. The patented Titanium Bonding process provides corrosion and adhesive resistance and the process itself makes the stainless steel 3x harder than untreated stainless, providing a blade that stays sharper longer.
Of course, as in all Cuda knives, the steel runs all of the way through the handle, known as “full tang” and creates a much stronger knife.
Speaking of the handle, the new Professional Knife features a unique handle composition that has a great, non-slip feel and function. Its made with a 47 Layers of compressed, cold molded Micarta®, which creates this great new feel.
The first fish I cleaned was a redfish. Using the tip of the knife, I slid down the backbone of the fish cutting the skin and about an inch of meat. The blade was super sharp and the Teflon coating helps it slide right down the fish.
