The Partnership for Sustainable Oceans (PSO), Ocean Access Protection Fund (OAPF) and United Anglers of Southern California (UASC) announced plans for a collaborative “Fight the MLPA” Fundraising Dinner scheduled for Sunday, May 22 at the Atrium Hotel in Irvine, Calif. Proceeds from this event will go towards the legal costs of the continued battle against the flawed and mismanaged Marine Life Protection Act process that aims to close off access to some of California’s prime fishing spots.
Special guest speakers for this event include George Osborn, lobbyist for the PSO, who will give an insider’s report on the MLPA fight. Also taking the podium will be Gordon Robertson, Vice President/Government Affairs for the American Sportfishing Association.
Robertson will share his “behind-the-scenes” view of the MLPA legal battle.
Also speaking will be Robert C. Fletcher, former Fish & Game Commission Deputy Director, former President of the Sportfishing Association of California and the named litigant in the lawsuit against the MLPA. Fletcher will provide his unique insight and thoughts on the battle to keep California’s waters open to fishing.
Together, these three key players will explain the legal strategy of the OAPF, how anglers and the industry have succeeded thus far and what will be required to continue this fight to a positive conclusion. In addition to a delicious plated dinner, the evening will feature plenty of valuable door prizes, raffle items and silent-auction items.
The event kicks off with cocktails and mingling, beginning at 4:30 p.m. The dinner runs from 5:30-8:00 p.m. Tickets for this limited-seating event are now on sale ($65 per person or $550 for a table of 10) and can be purchased by calling UASC headquarters at 562-494-9900 or by emailing [email protected]. To keep up the legal battle, the OAPF needs funds, so please consider attending the dinner and bidding on a few of the auction items.
