Cape Eleuthera Resort & Yacht Club in the Bahamas recently announced that the 2012 Cape Eleuthera Wahoo Tournament will take place January 18th through 21st. In addition to a handcrafted trophy, the winner will receive $1,000 in Shell fuel products from the Tournament’s lead sponsor Sun Oil Bahamas Ltd.
“The Cape Eleuthera Wahoo Tournament is highly competitive yet the rules are simple and uncomplicated,” said Cape Eleuthera’s general manager Stephen Kappeler. “After a busy day on the water, the evenings’ activities are relaxed with good food cooked on an open fire. Best of all, the wahoo fishing in Exuma Sound during January is hard to beat.”
Entry fee for the three-day tournament is a very reasonable $550 per boat if paid before January 4, 2012. Trophies will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners based upon the sum of the heaviest five qualifying fish caught during the tournament. The team that catches the heaviest wahoo in the event will also win a trophy.
Cape Eleuthera Resort is offering special townhouse rental rates of $199 per night exclusively for Cape Eleuthera Wahoo Tournament participants. Cape Eleuthera has been the number one ranked resort on Eleuthera for 4 years in a row.
The Bahamas Out Island Promotion Board has several outstanding, money saving offers for participating teams. As an example, a $300 Fuel Credit Offer is available to any registered boat participating in the Cape Eleuthera Wahoo Tournament. In addition, anglers and their guests from Nassau can take advantage of several ‘fly free’ offers now available through the Bahamas Out Island Promotion Board. Those flying to Rock Sound from anywhere in the USA can receive as much as $400 instant savings on stays of six nights or longer. Visit www.myoutislands.com for these and other money saving offers.
“Through the generous help of our sponsors and with the support of the Ministry of Tourism, we are pulling out all the stops to make the tournament appealing to wahoo fishermen both in The Bahamas and those coming from the States,” said Kappeler.
Al Behrendt is coordinating the Cape Eleuthera Wahoo Tournament. Behrendt has directed the Bahamas Billfish Championship for the past 30 years. “In planning for the Wahoo Tournament we spoke with many experienced wahoo fishermen. We then developed rules and created a schedule of events that combines keen fishing competition with relaxing social activities. I am confident that fishermen will look forward to the Cape Eleuthera Wahoo Tournament for years to come,” Behrendt said.
