Marlin Club Juniors Tournament

The Michael L. Farrior 6th Annual Marlin Club Juniors Tournament offers two different components to accommodate both the junior anglers of the Marlin Club and the IGFA Junior anglers an opportunity to enjoy a day of fishing the waters off San Diego.

Junior anglers may fish either on Marlin Club member boats or aboard a half-day charter boat provided by IGFA Trustee and Historian, Michael L. Farrior.

The 6th annual event attracted 32 juniors who fished the kelp beds aboard the spacious Premier out of H&M Landing, and the Marlin Club fielded ten member boats with ten junior anglers aboard … fishing farther offshore for yellowtail, tuna, dorado and striped marlin.

Both groups gathered at the Marlin Club on Shelter Island for a barbeque and awards ceremony emceed by Honorary Member, John Campbell.

Campbell began by thanking IGFA Trustee and Historian, Michael L. Farrior and his wife Susie for sponsoring the event and encouraged the group to give them a big SHOUT OUT.

Largest yellowfin tuna, Blake Robinson, 29.6-pounds — Cousins rod and Diawa Reel.
Second yellowfin tuna, Aidan Robinson, 28.4-pounds.
Third yellowfin tuna, Cole Reynolds, 23.6-pounds.
Trevor Teams, Dom Donafrio, and Brent Van der Heyden received Okuma rods for their yellowfin tuna.
Blake Robinson 3.2-pound dorado received Okuma Rod.

Premier Junior Winners

Largest fish, Daniel Ruiz, 2-pound calico – Okuma Rod.
Most fish, Ethan Mayes, 3 rockfish — Okuma Rod.
Junior girl, Jasmine Carvajal, Calico — Spinning Rod.
Levi Lopez, perch — Spinning Rod.
Landon Lopez, perch — Spinning Tackle.

The announcement was followed by a lively raffle of awards donated by Cousins Rods, Diawa Reels, Luc Ofield, owner of Anglers Choice Tackle, Pacific Properties, and others.

Wrapping up, Campbell, on behalf of Michael L Farrior and IGFA, expressed a special thanks to Melissa, Marlin Club Manager, Bill McLeod, Past President, Jon Wilson, Past President, Robert “Bert” Williams, Kari Wilson, Gina Smith, Star Darden, Julie Wroncy, Dan, Julia and Ray, along with John Alvarado, “Good Neighbor Foundation” and his staff for bringing 17 junior anglers and to the IGFA Reps and all of the other volunteers who made the Michael L. Farrior 6th Annual Marlin Club Juniors Tournament such a special success.
