Luiza Barros, Fishing With Luiza
BDOutdoors got together with Luiza Barros for a quick interview. Enjoy.
BD: Where do you live?
Luiza Barros: I live on the west coast of Central Florida
BD: What is you occupation?
Luiza Barros: Fishing is my full time job.. I love it so much I wouldn’t even consider it to be a job but I’m also a spokesperson/ambassador for a variety of outdoor brands.
BD: Do you enjoy other hobbies?
Luiza Barros: If I’m not fishing, I’m diving. I’m scuba certified and enjoy peaceful reef and wreck dives, I also enjoy spearfishing & shooting my bow. I just love being outdoors and can’t remember last time I turned my TV on.
BD: Who or what got you into fishing?
Luiza Barros: I started fishing with my grandma when I was just a little girl. She used to take me and my sister fishing on our farm in Brazil (which we still have)…we would spend hours just the 3 of us by the lake catching fish.
BD: How long have you been fishing?
Luiza Barros: Since I was around 9. I’ve always enjoyed the outdoors but within the last few years I’ve become more and more serious about it and have decided to turn my passion into a full time job.
BD: Tell us about your fishing experiences?
Luiza Barros: As long as I’m on a boat with a rod in my hands I’m happy but saltwater fishing holds a special place in my heart! I’ve been fortunate enough to have been able to travel all over the world fishing in places like the Cayman Islands, Turks & Caicos, Bahamas, Curacao, Panama, Brazil and Mexico and got to experience all types of fishing from the bonefish in the flats to the big yellowfin tuna in the deep blue sea. Bottom fishing, trolling, sight fishing, deep dropping, jigging you name it I’ve done it.
BD: What is your favorite kind of fishing so far?
Luiza Barros: This is a tough question so hard to pick just one …I really enjoy fishing for dolphin because of how acrobatic and strong they are plus they are amazing to eat, just an all around great fish to catch but I also love bottom fishing and trolling for grouper.
BD: What are some future goals or plans pertaining to fishing?
Luiza Barros: I would love to go fishing in Australia! Such an amazing variety of fish plus that’s where the Great Barrier Reef is located and it would be amazing to be able dive and explore it.
BD: What part of fishing do you like the most?
Luiza Barros: Definitely watching a fish explode on a topwater lure! There’s really nothing more exciting than a top-water blow up! It doesn’t matter if it’s a redfish hitting a topwater lure or a gigantic yellowfin tuna exploding on a popper, it’s all very exciting to watch.
BD: What are some of your proudest moments in fishing?
Luiza Barros: I’ve caught dolphin in the Florida Keys over 40-pounds and I’ve also caught redfish that were nearly 50-inches!!
