Whether you need to downshift to turn the head of a sounding yellowfin tuna, or crank like hell to gain line as the captain runs down a billfish, two-speed reels help you make the most of any situation. The latest reels to hit the market from Fin-Nor, the Marquesa Two-Speed, offer two vastly different gear ratios in one tough package to make sure you’re covered no matter what fish you’re pursuing.
The Marquesa Two-Speed reels feature an extended gearbox design allowing the angler to pick up 51 inches of line with every rotation of the handle when using the 6.1:1 high gear. Yet, when you get into a stalemate with a big fish and you need to move down to Marquesa’s lower gear, all it takes is the push of a button. Now you can battle it out in low gear with a 3.1:1 gear ratio.
The Marquesa’s drag uses a carbon fiber, heat-resistant system that turns out 45 pounds of smooth-running drag while maintaining free-spool. And speaking of free-spool, the Marquesa sports a smooth and super-fast spool, which helps you drop a bait back to a fish in the spread more quickly, and baits go farther when casting or pitching. The drag is designed to effectively fish with monofilament or braided line.
The Marquesa frame is forged and then machined from the finest 6061-T6 aircraft-grade aluminum available. This results in good tolerances and superior strength, which in turn gives the angler fatigue-saving comfort for fighting fish on stand-up, even when using heavy drag with braided line.
The open frame design allows for fast access to the spool, and an ergonomic handle offers welcomed comfort, especially when you’re putting the heat to a nice fish.
Available in two sizes, the MA20II and MA30II retail for $369 and $389 respectively.
