Defiance Boats is known for building no-nonsense fishing boats that ride well and provide plenty of deck space to fish in all conditions. The new San Juan series, however, takes that a new direction and offers more living space to their already proven fishing boats.
“We’ve had a lot of people asking us for a dressed up boat with more creature comforts,” says Jon Lawrence of Defiance Boats. “A lot of guys are big fans of our Admiral series. They like that it’s a no-frills sportfishing boat. They can go out, fish it, bloody up the deck, spray it down and they’re done. The new San Juan, however, is great for families who want more living space so they can go cruising and have a more social boat. But it’s still built for fishing with everything you need and adequate deck space for four anglers.”
The 220 San Juan offers all of the fishing features you would expect in a Defiance Boat, such as a large deck, two in-floor fish boxes and a pilothouse, but the interior takes things a step farther. The cabin features a full galley, seating for four and comfortable sleeping accommodations for three adults.
The San Juan also comes with a different pilothouse configuration, extended cabin and a six-inch increase in the freeboard. One look and it’s easy to see that Defiance really stepped up the accommodations on this boat. The dinette can be quickly transformed into a bed. The boat also has a galley, fridge and V-berth. Other standard features include a locking glass door, forward-facing front window, molded-in cabin liner, upgraded bolster helm’s chair and forward and reverse co-captain seating.
The 25-foot San Juan offers even more living space accentuated with custom cherry woodwork in the cabin and a stand-up shower in the head.
Defiance just launched its first 220 San Juan this past week, and is still in the process of putting together all of the performance numbers. On its initial runs, the 22-foot boat ran just over 40 mph with a 200-hp outboard.
The San Juan 250 tops out in the high 30-mph range with a single 250-hp engine. Power it with twin 150s and you’ve got a 45 mph boat.
The 220 San Juan retails for $69,999 for the boat, standard 150-hp engine and trailer. The 250 retails for $119,000 for the boat, motor and trailer. To learn more about Defiance and their entire line of boats, visit www.defianceboats.com.
