Cousins Tackle Open House

Jun 19, 2014 by BD Staff

Cousins Tackle Corp. is inviting surf-fishing enthusiasts from across Southern California to its Huntington Beach, California factory for a day of fun, food and angling education.

The first annual Cousins Surf Fishing Open House will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 28, and will include a surf fishing panel seminar bringing together some of the best light tackle beach anglers in the state.

Speakers will include Bill Varney, book author and angling educator; Jason Scribner, owner of the website scsurffishing.com; surf fishing bait provider Rick Klein, and at least three others. These top anglers will share their secrets for consistently catching big perch, corbina, croaker, halibut and other popular sport fish from Southern California beaches. All aspects of light-tackle surf fishing will be covered, including tackle selection and rigging, bait selection, care and proper presentation, “reading” the shoreline, using artificial lures and more.

Another highlight will be ongoing guided tours of Cousins’ state-of-the-art manufacturing facility, where fishing enthusiasts can see for themselves how quality American-made rods, lure skirts and lures are built.

“We’re extremely proud of our premium surf fishing rod family, developed with the help of experts like Bill Varney,”

said Cousins Tackle CEO Bill Buchanan. “Each rod has a finely-tuned action that’s perfect for fishing specific lures and baits in the surf.

We’re equally proud of our people, our new factory and how we’re re-energizing Southern California’s rich tackle-building tradition. It’s our pleasure to share this with anglers throughout the region — and with the surging interest in light-tackle surf fishing, this event seemed like a great way to accomplish this,” added Buchanan.

In addition, Cousins will be providing a free lunch and refreshments to all in attendance, along with a Cousins “goodie bag.” Additional tackle manufacturers, industry representatives and fishing-related media outlets will be on hand to interact with visitors, including Lucky Craft Lure Company, Promar/Ahi, Socalsurfrats.com, Phil Freidman Outdoors, Fish Taco Chronicles, and others.

Southern California Cousins dealer Fisherman’s Hardware will be offering special deals on Cousins’ Bill Varney Signature Series surf rods, as well as other Cousins rod models for all styles of salt and freshwater fishing.

For more information on this free event, a schedule of activities, directions, or parking information, contact Cousins Tackle at (714) 893-0423.
