Cousins Tackle Expands Northeast – Cousin Tackle Northwest

rodsIt’s only been about 18 months since Cousins Tackle Corporation began production at its rod and lure-skirt manufacturing facility, and already the company has a staff of 50 cranking out product at its 13,000-square-foot factory in Huntington Beach, California. Cousins Tackle — named for real-life cousins and tackle industry veterans Bill Buchanan and Wade Cunningham — has quickly become a full-line manufacturer, offering fishermen an extensive line of premium rods with actions fine-tuned for all styles of fishing and every type of fish from bluegill to bluefin tuna.

Now, Cousins is bringing its line of American-made, premium quality rods to fresh and saltwater anglers across the Northeast United States. Cousins rods first appeared in small displays at the recent Suffern Show in New York and the Saltwater Fishing Expo in Somerset, New Jersey. But big plans are already underway, thanks in large part to the newest member of the Cousins Tackle team, Scott Greenberg.

Greenberg literally grew up in the fishing tackle industry, working for, and eventually owning, the family business, Merrick Tackle. A business that began in 1959 as a retail tackle store in Merrick, Long Island, grew into powerhouse distributor serving retailers in every American state and 58 countries. Greenberg began working at his father’s company when he was just eight years old.

Over decades in the fishing business, Greenberg has built up a solid reputation and an enviable list of contacts who consider him not just a business partner, but also a friend.

Now, Greenberg has joined the Cousins Tackle family as Northeast Manufacturer’s Representative. And he has hit the ground running, already signing up numerous dealers across this extremely important region for the fishing tackle business.

“Response to Cousins has been overwhelmingly positive,” said Greenberg. “The product literally checks every box independent tackle retailers want to see when considering a new rod line.

The American-made craftsmanship of these rods is apparent as soon as you pick one up.

Considering the level of quality, the retail pricing of these rods is very competitive and the margins for dealers very good. And most importantly to my customers, Cousins will only sell its rods through its own national network of geographically exclusive tackle stores,” added Greenberg.

The Cousins brand will be new to East Coast anglers to be sure, but the company has aggressive marketing plans to support the launch. And the line speaks for itself — more than 350 graphite, graphite composite and fiberglass rod models, all made from the blank up in the company’s California factory. Company principals Buchanan and Cunningham have helped create such iconic and successful fishing tackle brands as Sage, Seeker, Fenwick, Sevenstrand, Berkley, Spiderwire, Stren, Abu Garcia, Abel and Shikari. The two worked side-by-side at Fenwick at a time when the company was putting out 1,000 rods per day. In addition to top quality rods, Cousins also manufactures the finest vinyl lure skirts and offshore trolling lures in its California factory.

When you put Buchanan and Cunningham together with Greenberg, you have what amounts to an “all-star” team of fishing tackle experts ready to create a superior line of American-made rods for Northeast anglers. Whether it’s freshwater rods, stand-up offshore rods, surf sticks or inshore tackle for stripers, bluefish, fluke and more, Cousins will build the perfect American-made rod for the job.

Cousins rods all begin as blanks fine-tuned by Cunningham and hand made by rod building experts with years of experience.
