THREE MUST KNOW FISHING KNOTS FOR SO CAL ANGLERS

Every angler has a favorite set of knots that they swear by and consistently use on their fishing trips. Here are some of our favorite knots that have been proven time and time again to be incredibly effective and reliable. Mike Murciano from BD Outdoors walks us through three basic knots that every angler in Southern California should have in their arsenal.

First up we have the Palomar Knot. This is an extremely quick and simple knot to tie, and boasts a relatively high breaking strength. This makes it the perfect knot to tie on your hooks or lures when you’re in a pinch and need to get something tied up very quickly without sacrificing integrity. We would recommend using this knot if you’re targeting fish 40 pounds or under, although it can handle more.

Secondly, we have our San Diego Jam Knot. Like the name would imply, this is the go-to knot for a large number of Southern California anglers. After a few practice goes, your muscle memory will have you tying this knot in 30 seconds or less. It can be used to tie on hooks, lures, and jigs with almost any size monofilament or fluorocarbon line.

Lastly, we have the RP knot, a connection knot used when attaching monofilament or fluorocarbon to braided line. This is another knot that will become second nature after tying it a couple times, and is extremely strong. This is the perfect knot to use when tying on a short fluorocarbon leader, or a topshot of monofilament line.

Whether you’re just getting started or are an experienced long time angler, we all know that if you aren’t learning something new everyday, you are not bettering yourself as an angler. Take these knots on the water with you your next time out, and be sure to practice beforehand at home, and we promise you won’t be disappointed with the results.
