Boat Cleaning Hacks
Most boats use metal hardware that is labeled as stainless steel, but the quality of stainless components can vary greatly. You might put in six stainless screws from the same box and some portion of them may rust over time while the others do not. Replacing them is the only solution, but now you need to remove the rust stains they left behind.
There are many brands of rust-removing products. We like to use Whink, which is made for clothing.
A light rust stain will melt away with a light squirt, and a heavier stain may take repeated applications and a little brushing.
Keep in mind that most rust removers are a type of acid, so watch your eyes and hands. Also try not to get it on your metal itself as it can sometimes cause it to rust again.
