Make Wish Tuna Challenge 2016
It’s time to start making plans for the 2016 Make-A-Wish Tuna Challenge, which will take place August 26-28, 2016 at the Silver Gate Yacht Club. It seems the recent El Niño has left a nice calling card as there are already big bruiser bluefin in local waters. It’s setting up to be a monumental tournament! You won’t want to miss it.
This is the 27th consecutive year for the tournament dedicated to raising money for the San Diego Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Over the years the money has raised millions of dollars, with 100% of the proceeds going to grant the wishes of local children with life altering medical conditions, bringing joy to them and their families during their times of struggle. Last year more than $240,000 was raised for the San Diego Make-A-Wish Foundation. This allowed for the granting of many wishes, bringing smiles and happiness to dozens of ill children.
Please help us beat last year’s total so that we can help grant the wishes of many more deserving kids and their families. The Captains Meeting will be on Friday, August 26, 2016 at Silver Gate Yacht Club on Shelter Island; fishing starts with lines-in at 5:00am on Saturday, August 27th and you must weigh your fish in no later than 9:00am on Sunday, August 28h.
Our gala awards banquet will be on Sunday beginning at 10:00am at Silver Gate. If you can’t fish the tournament, you can do your part to support the San Diego Make-A-Wish Foundation by coming to the gala banquet. There will be raffles, auctions, food and fun, along with the awards presentations. There’s something for everyone.
All of the information about the event along with tournament sign-ups and rules can be found on our website, www.tunachallenge.org. Please help us spread the word. Tell your friends about the tournament and sign-up today. We have angler prize categories for both large and small boats, team prizes, and even side pots. We hope to see you at the event this August.
Come help put smiles on the children that deserve it.
