Re: In Canada as I type!
Great report John
"The funny thing is that we are seeing a tremendous amount of geese flying into the roosts (lakes). They are not flying back out to feed though"
Migrating birds, they're tired, they should move around the next day or at night on the moon.
I leave tomorrow for Saskatchewan!

Re: In Canada as I type!
Today’s hunt was a success. We harvested 32 geese and all but a few were the large models. We had one of the farmers with us today so it added an extra 8 birds to our totals. We hunted a cut barley field right below the church that I had sent a picture of on Tuesday. Man this place is beautiful!
Our Harvest total as of today is 76 Canada’s and 18 Ducks. We still have tomorrow to go. We just need to find another field. We will go out in two vehicles tonight (like last night) to cover more ground. We will work north and south. We have a couple of potential areas to look.
Today’s hunt was probably one of my best hunts in a long time. The birds came into the decoys in smaller groups and very few left. The last flock of the morning was a larger one but we only took 2 birds out of it to complete the day.
We have been shooting 3.5” Kent Matrix, Federal Black Cloud, Kent Fast Steel and Remington Wingmaster HD shotshells. To be honest, as close as the shots have been on these birds, we have been unable to tell the difference. The birds have been getting flat out devastated. Take a look at the pictures 2 & 3, you can see birds being hit in #2 and another falling in #3. Out further though, the Remington HD #2’s are King…and that is saying a lot because I am a huge Kent Matrix fan.
The pictures represent the events from early morning through the hunt today. Take notice of our rental car in the barley field. Probably the best picture posted so far. The truck and trailer is my friends Rob’s; the gear is split between the three of us. I can’t believe it, one more hunt and we pack up and come home Saturday. I will post later tonight after scouting. Jeff, Rob and I are going to Rob’s parents tonight for some delicious grain fed duck shish-ka-bobs (spelling?). Talk with you all later today.Trying to be the man my dog thinks I am...

I am really enjoying reading about your trip. That is just the best way to do it, road trip style, by yourselfs. I am jealous. Good for you! Keep at it

Damn that looks like fun. Since they banned goose hunting in Argentina, I guess I'm going to have to go back to Canada to get my fix. Keep up the good work and drive home safely.

Re: In Canada as I type!
Hey,
We just returned from Rob’s mom’s house and had an excellent duck dinner. His family is from the Ukraine and the cabbage rolls were excellent.
We pulled a rabbit out of the hat at the last bit of light tonight. We looked at a field that we hunted last year and it was loaded with mallards, Canada’s and speckle bellies. The field was cut barley and should be a great trip ending shoot. We head back to Edmonton after the hunt and then head home on Saturday. I’m ready; this trip has been fulfilling to say the least.
I wanted to attach a few more pictures from the hunt this morning. I will post the video bursts when I get home and have the right software (my desktop pc has it). I will post again tomorrow after the hunt and that will be it for the trip. I hope I did not bore you all; was just hoping that it would bring some excitement to this site and get everyone fired up for the upcoming waterfowl season.
Cheers…talk to you all tomorrow. Need sleep.Trying to be the man my dog thinks I am...
