If you already know where to score one why are you here wasting time and taking abuse?

It's funny though, I get somebody like you twice a day saying they saw this vehicle here or "my buddy bought one there", yet these people are still out shopping for the Holy Grail. Until you put your ass in the seat of a $10,000 diesel truck and drive it, its all "radio fish".

Yes, two years ago when diesel was $5.25 a gallon, and the banks were being choked by the amount of repos coming in, you could buy a nice truck for as little as $10k. But all those trucks are gone now and there is a shortage of certain vehicles in a particular price range (under $15k).

Believe it or not but a clean 2001-02 Dodge Ram 2500 4x4 (not a crewcab) with under a 100k miles are bringing $12,000-$15,000 on the wholesale market. Do you know why? Its because folks aren't comfortable paying $40,000-$50,000 for new ones.

In general, unless you do auto sales, vehicles are not investments but tools that are used by the consumer. They will all depreciate as they age. Some faster than others. Because they do not sell as many new diesel trucks as they do F150's, Chevy 1500's etc... the used market for diesels will, barring any drastic fuel increase, stay strong.

Good luck finding your Holy Grail, but I'll say again that "theft recovery" vehicles should be looked at with both eyes open, and by a qualified frame shop and diesel mechanic. A used 6.0 engine could cost $5000-$7000 plus install and a bent frame could cost a set of tires every 3000 miles.

P.S. The 2005 Ford Excursion 4x4 with a 6.0 diesel that could be bought new after rebates for as little as $40,000 is, depending on miles bringing, $25,000-$30,000 wholesale. I wonder what my 2002 7.3 with 54k is worth?

Im in the business...10 grand buys you a 2000 or older diesel with 150+ clicks on it. If somebody advertises what sounds too good to be true be sure to wire them the money and then come back on here and cry how some lonely thief in Nigeria just fed the whole village with puting you together

    Wayne,

I bought a 2000 Excursion Diesel with 89,000 miles for $15,000, I sold it two years later with 115,000 miles for $14,700.
