I have an 85 HP Yamaha outboard with yammie controls mounted to my center console. My throttle bleeds off as soon as I let go of the throttle handle (this gets old after a few hours of running) unless I'm at trolling speed.

Anybody know where the tension adjustment is on a Yamaha control box? I can take a picture of the throttle and post it tomorrow to help clarify what mine looks like. Thanks. I thought I"d ask someone before I go in blindly with a 12-pack of Pabst.

Most controls have a set screw on the bottom of the shift/throtle lever.
look for an allen set screw to be exposed on the bottom as you advance the throtle.

thanks, don...I'll look for that when I get home today....My owners manual shows the incorrect shift assembly (the kind shown is not the kind you'd use on a center console, but rather the sort you'd see mounted to the side of helm).

yup mine is the same control as yours. Its not too bad so I haven't fucked with it yet but pop off the black plastic cap at the bottom of the shifter handle and tighten it up.
