so i drive an 87 toy pickup. the gas gauge only works when it's full or near that. when it gets less than that, it drops dramatically and stays below E and the gas light doesn't come on anymore.

i do keep an eye on my odometer and cut down on driving as much as i can, but anyone know an inexpensive way to fix this? thanks.

use your odometer or trip odo. to keep an eye on how many miles you've gone. That's the cheapest way.

Or drop the tank and clean the sending unit float sensor.
