Santa Monica surf 8-8, surprisingly good

Conditions...not very good. I was north of the pier during lunch. There was more rocks than sand, no structure, lots of kelp. Crabs were hard to find, but I managed about 15 dime to nickel sized ones. There was a bit of red tide about 150 yards off the shore as well. Everything closer in to shore was just rocks, I couldn't believe how little sand there was. So I spent the day making long casts out as far as I could. Luckily, for about 15 mins, the YFC went WFO. Every cast was bit in 10 seconds or less. I landed 9 of them, 8 to 14". Some of the larger ones were toads, lots of girth. I think they thought they were corbina b/c they fought like corbs. I also got one SNGF, 12". Everything released. Bite shut off fast when a pod of dolphins came in real close right in front of where I was casting. Nice day on the beach. Sorry, no pics, too busy catching fish.
