The Rooster is a nice boat, good crew and good food. You will like it.
I was on it last Nov. and would be again if they had a 12 day trip this fall but to get 12 days I had to book another boat.

try the angler! there's a reason most trips are full a year in advance. ask the folks at five star who's fish look the best after a trip. 14 day trips ride with only 18 anglers. the food is great and they treat you like family. when i sat down and figured all the cost of a 14 day trip, the angler was the best deal for money with the lightest load.remember this, when there's 30+ angler on a boat,no matter how long it is, most of them still fish at the back third of the boat!

not really the same... Rooster is 105' the Excel 124' and the Intrepid 116'........big differences.
the stabilizers on the Intrepid really eliminate a lots of the roll.
the Rooster can be a tough rough ride.....it also has a weird shudder when it
hits a hole in the water....and try not to get a room in the bow.gets a little bouncy.... have fished many many trips on the Rooster it was my go to boat before the Intrepid,,,the crew is good and Andy Cates and John Grabowski are both awesome......but
I have switched over to the Intrepid about 4 years ago....but given the right trip I would hop on the Rooster again in a heartbeat.....

This is the best reply I've seen in this thread.
YOU have to find the boat with the best vibe for YOU!
Finding a Capt and crew that match YOUR personality IS the thing.
I too, fish the Royal Star. I've taken trips on the others to see and experience the possibilities, but it's always come back to Tim, Randy, Brian and the crew of the Star.
The vessel is just hardware, IMO it's the software that makes a great trip!
There are boats in the fleet I won't set foot on, and not because of the vessel. But that's just ME, one of them may be your happy place, but ONLY YOU can make that decision.
Enjoy the search, trying new things can be very exciting.Catch and release

Thanks for the input guys. As I read the replies, I can see each of you have a favorite boat to fish from. Mine was the "Q", but now things have changed. I like the ALL INCLUSIVE pricing on the Intrepid, and I have fished her once for a Fall 10 day trip, but to me, it is just a bit too much 5 Star quality(part of the price), and I am more or a 3-4 star person. I may fish the Intrepid again, but so far, I am leaning towards the EXCEL and/or the ROOSTER. The American Angler is still in the hunt. Any and All comments are surely appreciated, and I hope to see many more on this board(thread) before I make ANY decisions.
I am thankful that their are so many experienced anglers on this board that are willing to share vital information.

You did not list the Polaris Supreme, but it along with the others is one fine operation. The boat is in the best shape I have seen her in 15 years and Tommy has the best crew he has ever had. I fish the Supreme a lot along with the American Angler. These are my two favorites, primarily based on the crew and the limited loads.
If you are looking for an October trip I have a few spots on an Accurate sponsored 8 day leaving October 13 and returning on the 21st. The trip is limited to 20 and leaves and returns on a weekend to minimize lost time from work. If interested send me a PM or contact Susan at 619 390-2890.
PS Last year we fished a 7 out of the 8 days and caught everthing from Wahoo to Tuna!

All the boats are great! The Intrepid usually fishes with less of a load, rides slick and is quiet. I think the most important is the crew which guys do you like. I love fishing with Big D and Eddie on the Royal Polaris, Jesus is a friend on the Independence ,have to get to know the guys on the Intrepid more love the boat, need to fish more days to rate the crew.Last July 4th was bad fishing for the whole fleet so cant rate the crew no fish for anyone. Intrepid great food ,roomy stateroom and flatscreen. Bent Rods Scott
