My long range experience is nil- I did a three day on the Searcher once. But my son and I went on the Q 105 to San Clemente Island for a kayak/mothership trip a few yrs ago. The fishing wasn't great, but the captain and crew went out of their way to provide everyone, and particularly my son, with a good experience. I am very sorry to see the Q (and any other sport boat) business going away. These are tough times indeed.
One wonders how future generations will view the 2007- ? economic woes. Will it be viewed as the 21st century's Great Depression? I am neither an economist or a historian, but I do believe it is the worst long term economic situation that I have experienced as an adult, as well as the only one that has impacted me directly.

Really Sad Day For The Q!
One of my favorite long range boats. Lots of fishing room, handled rough sea's very well. Excellent crew. Just a fun boat to be on.
Hope the Q can be brought back to its glory years, would like to fish on her again.

Hola Spike!
I was on the trip with all the BFT and Jeff sitting on the rail, in fact I've got an almost identical photo of my own with the person taking that photo in front of me!
God, I'm going to miss the Q, but I can't imagine it just disappearing, she'll be back with a new owner.
BTW do you or have you heard what Ryan is up to?

JK just left me a voice mail. He said that June, July and even some August trips have been cancelled but that he found some people that are interested in fixing the boat. He also said that some of the other boats are accepting his deposits and some are not and that whatever happens he will do his best to get us our money back if things don't work out. He closed by saying that at this point he is just putting one foot in front of the other and right now that's all he can do.
I called the office back and told Tita that I appreciated John contacting me and that my money is on him and the Q-105. I don't want to change boats at this time and I added that they shouldn't worry about giving me even part of my deposit back right now. We can deal with that later and as far as I'm concerned I'm still booked on the Oct. 30 10 day BFG trip and we'll just keep our fingers crossed.

I spent many years fishing the "Q". I am really going to miss her. Had a great bunch of people working her for a number of years too. I'll never forget my first trip on her. WFO albacore and bluefin. Drifted the whole day, and never more than 10 to 15 seconds soaking a bait before hookup. Jeff was Capt., Rodney Craig, and Spike were on Deck (those were the ones I remembered) I believe Gary was the chef. It was a 4 day. We had such a load in the first day, that Jeff ran us down to Guadalupe for Yellowfin. My kid won the jackpot with a 76 pounder. Great great memories and friends on that boat. I was also on Joe Crisi's first trip on her with Rodney as skipper (another great guy gone to the way side) I will always remember, and miss those I met on her. She is a great vessel.

Thanks John!
RIP Qualifier 105.
Thanks John for the many years. I took my first 5-day on the Q, and got to fish and catch at the 'lupe. I appreciate your zeal and gusto in including kayaks, and their wet smelly pilots, along on the skiff trips. Somewhat free reign on a kayak at places like Benitos, the weather side of Cedros, Natividad, and Chester/Eugenia are memories I will always have.
Lunch Time!

I'll miss that easy-to-identify tower:
"What possest a farmer like you to set foot in a boat beats me."
