I haven't fished the East Coast much but I'll tell you that I had a blast casting poppers to 8-15 lb. bluefish (caught over 50 fish a day and released most) and striped bass at Newport, Rhode Island with local guys that made their own lures and knew how to follow fish and set up for them. They could have been the same guys I fish with in San Diego. Not much difference in terms of skill, character and having fun. Also, if San Diego Bay had those aggessive bluefish and big striped bass it would be a LOT more crowded with fishermen than it is now.
