Hey you'd be surprised...over 8 years working local and long range, I've met some FISHY people, especially when it comes to bait (they also show up on sonar
)...however you're right, the vast majority over here wouldn't have a clue. Actually, EDIT, the show would consist of East Coast guys showing up to the dock in pink shirts and hot pants, coffee grinders and all, and the West Coast guys would still be home, typing on a message board about one trip they went on so now they are Pro.
We couldn't have a show over here because you can only get decent fishing a few months of the year (MLPA and Mexico doing God knows what) and are limited on species, unless you are talking long range. The other guys can haul ass in their bitchin 36' yellowfin to an oil rig and film a show on a cornucopia of species. Why do they have to look like homo's while doing it? Who knows...But let's be honest, the East Coast fishery is far more impressive than rockfish, some bass, barracuda, the occasional yellow or wsb, and some school sized tuna. Ooooh maybe we could film a thrilling show on trolling 2 knots for threshers once a year..Don't get me started on their fishing..from the mangroves with redfish, tarpon, snook, permit, etc to oil rigs with snappers, tunas, wahoo, cobia, day time swordfish, etc.. they have a lot of badass fishing over there. Oh yeah and their largemouth fishing isn't too shabby either
A captain that I worked with was from Cape Cod, and I talked all kinds of shit on his diamond jigs..well, although I still think they're gay, I can't say they don't work on tuna.
My major beef, and hopefully a East Coaster could help me out, WHY IN GOD'S NAME DO YOU STILL CRANK WITH THE CLICKERS ON?! YOU HOOKED THE FISH, WHAT MORE DO YOU NEED TO KNOW? Damn, I have to watch most East Coast shows on mute.
how you like that rant?

That was funny kyle. On the clickers, they do that only for TV purposes. Somewhere in the chain of command someone decided it was more exciting for TV to leave the clicker on while fighting fish.
Yes, the east coast fishery is amazing. We have a little slot of water over here compared to the east coast.
The reason for the difference in attire is because the east coast fishery is done mostly from private sportfishers and these folks have fished in normal clothing coming from enough money to afford to not look like a total slob and dirtbag while fishing on $250k + vessel.
Whereas the folks fishing sporties here for tuna and yellows expect to get bloody and have brails of livies thrown over our heads while getting soaked with spray and scales. So we tend to wear shirts which have become fishing shirts, and old beat up tennis shoes, or xtra tuff boats, and usually board shorts, Jeans, and sweat shirts. Guys on the west coast look pretty sloppy and looking like they are working in Dutch harbor. the guys on the east coast wear nice clothes fishing smaller boats, not being influenced but the west coast fish slayer dock rat looking "style". Yikes

Haha I kind of like the grubby look. I also imagine it's considerably hotter or more humid over there thus the light fabric clothes, that just so happen to come in a rainbow of colors

We don't have shows, LR does have some nice DVD's by Bill Roecker & Paul Sweeney, but obviously it's more of a "how to video" than a dramatic series.
How about we give them East coasters something really specail to compete with...........................
How about..................................
A 5 part series of Dan Hernandez fishing the Hunington Flats?

Well, who would have imagined that this topic would have grown legs and taken off like this. Yes, we seriously need a good offshore season this year. And I agree, Sosin is definitely "that guy". Best guy was Wejebe, RIP.

but to there OP, yes, a cool West Coast show would be cool...although I don't think big production is the way to go. Small operation, and upload long videos to a website or something. I don't think VS or NBC sports cares about our hobby vs rating numbers
Damn Spike we don't want to put them out of business, just compete a little
