Fishing with David and Willy is a great teaching and learning moment. I think back on the fish I have lost over the years and I blame myself for leaving the fish in the water too long.
Like David and Bruce say....if the lines not going out....it should be coming in.....turn the handle.
It is true that Ray whispered in my ear that I was only fishing 90#....it made me pull harder because I already knew that I was not going to snap the line and as long as I kept direct pressure on the fish and kept him coming to the boat.....good things were going to happen. The worst thing would be that the "fish swam away" and that is the beauty of this sport.....sometimes the fish wins and I'm okay with that. Cutting off the circles was a trick Willy showed me....timing is everything and it makes the end game happen right now.
I have fished with David enough to know that he doesn't play games....it is game on....all the time. You gotta love that kind of mentality. He fishes HARD.
The other picture in my mind is Willy just blowing up a tuna in about 12 minutes and I mean "blowing up"....the fish blew his heart and it looked like a blown engine.......that was a ass whupping of the first order.
I have been very fortunate to have been able to fish with some of the best and if I can take one tenth away from what I have seen.....I will die a very lucky man.....Bruce hit it dead on and is a very good teacher.....reminds me that I need to go fish the Shogun again.
Last thought.............Steve K has been my fishing partner for quite awhile and when I think of smooth....Steve comes to mind. I don't think his pulse has ever gotten over 70 on any fish I have seen him hook and either land or miss on..
God I love this game."Jimal"

Thanks guys for all the great comments and support. Believe me, it was sort of sketchy posting that on the Shogun CC's, but at the same time that is where it does the most good.

I got my best tuna yet on the trip Bruce speaks of, and the words "the lines either going out or coming in" were going thru my mind the whole time. That and doing everything Tommy said, made watching it come thru the gate a very memorable experiance.
