Good stuff and great way to show another way to skin the cat.

Urushi-ness aside, that is one sweet foreskin on that rod!

The method depicted in this tututorials not meant to be a susubstitute but rather a starting point, so that people will give this a try...then move on to the real deal...shell. (And burning up rod lathe motors-ROTFLMAOBBQ).
Concur. That gaff Bill made looks absolutely gorgeous and the urushi YT Addict did are just as nice, and Capt G your Urushi are Legendary. Its a great innovating technique to use the veneer, but the real deal stuff has an unique look that blows away the veneer. some thing about each piece can not sit flush and therefore has a lean to it and an angle, and so you have depth in every piece of ab shell that you just can not duplicate in veneer.

The true urushi that you came up with is just too nice man, i must try that soon, will improvise the ab shell and will take this thread into consideration before trying.

This is an awesome tutorial G. Looks quicker and easier than the real shell yet still very beautiful and unique. But I do agree, the real ab shell has a different look to it and it's worth giving it a shot for those of you who haven't tried it yet. Very nice tutorial. Sorry for those telepathic waves traveling over the Pacific Ocean. Musta been while I was sanding down some abalone and wondering how hell you come up with this awesome shit and still raise it to the next level with every post/build.
