I checked into getting a private attorney but the cheapest was 5gs and then if it went to trial it was another 1g per day.
people in court that had their private lawyers basically got what the public defender got for others. it is justa big swap meet there with deasl being made in a room and then the lawyer bring the deal and really just tells you this is the best you'll get and if not and you lose in trial you are looking at 10Gs and possible jail time. so I took the $500 fine with $100 in lawyer fees for the infraction rather than a possible criminal misdeamenor. :-(

It would probably be my luck to have had 12 Bunny Huggers on the jury.

I would write your side in a good short story and realize your lucky to be alive. You know you were right and most Likely saved a hikers life, that's what's important in life!

Did anyone notice that this story made the Union Trib's sports page yesterday? Zieralski wrote a very long piece. Here's the link:

This whole situation with the "protected status" for mountain lions sickens me. Personally, I have no desire to go out and hunt one, but I would like to know that their population will be properly managed and if I were to encounter one that I felt was a threat to me, I could kill it and be confident that I would not have to shovel and shut up. Right now, I have no such confidence.
I'd really like to see a movement afoot to get a proposition on the ballot to repeal the "Mountain Lion Initiative". Although an attempt was made to repeal the law back in 1996 with Prop 197, it failed with 58% voting against the initiative. I'm not aware of any other initiatives attempting to repeal the law since that time. Mountain lion populations in California and the number of human encounters have increased immensely since their protected status went into effect. I personally have seen a mountain while afield in California every year for the past three years including one right here in San Diego County. As secretive as they are, I can't even imagine the number of lions watching me that I didn't see...I think it's time again for another ballot attempt to remove them from protected status.

Is it really that difficult to keep a thread on topic? I don't have a shit load of posts, but I do try to keep my posts on topic. Maybe you guys should start a Proyotehunter forum instead of hijacking every thread he happens to respond to. Just sayin....Jeeez

Hey bruce good shot, I have been close to the same situation you were in but did not have to pull the trigger. Who needs coffee when you have lions around.
