Not my favorite brand though. My preference is the older Volvo Mechanical Diesels.

If you don't go with diesels.........
You'll end up eating it on the re-sale. Nobody will want a 28' Force (Meant to be a commercial boat) With recreation outboard motors.....more or less being 2-stroke??!
It's just like putting twin 90hp Yamaha's on a 24 Yellowfin.
You say your 26? What do you do for a living?
I'd say budget for more like 70k.
If your gonna do a boat like this you gotta do it right.

Niiiceee engines. But, unfortunately, not in the budget right now. For now, i'll be fixing the rest of da boat then maybe get some twin diesels when I get my funds caught up.
------------
I did pick up the damaged boat from YB today and will have some pictures tomorrow.

In the next 9 months, I migh be able to save up 25K or so. I have some things I can sell.
Would this be sufficient for a pair of reliable diesels? I noticed there is a Cummins 210 6BT for sale that is remanufactured in Florida for 10K. What do you think about those motors? Do you need an OD or just straight shaft?

A buddy of mine and I headed into Kahului to pick up the boat about 11am. We get to the harbor and it's pouring rain. No big deal, we brought rain jackets and tools. Get the paperwork, go through securty, locate the boat, only to find that ball hitch was a 2 1/4 and I only had a 2-inch. So had to go to checkers in the rain and get a bigger one. Came back into the port hooked up, hooked. Even the lights and turn signals worked on the trailer which was a major surprise to me. Brakes do not function. Greased the hubs and drove her back to Kihei. Got some weird looks from towing dis thing but whateva...

Got back to Kihei and not much rain but really bad wind. Decided to make a tarp shelter over the transom to keep the sun off us while we work on it for the next few months.

Really thinking about taking my time on this just like the last one and maybe put diesels in, since that is best overall. Just need to find a way to come up with the $$$. Guess I could get a nice chunk of change off my old boat.... but definitely not ready to give that one up yet.

I would wait till you can afford some diesels, if you are planning on keeping the boat for any period of time might as well do it right. Even if you just want to "flip the boat"
just playing, very few people would be interested in a boat bigger then a 21' with Outboards.
Just wait for the right time, in this economy get some deals.
I would watch out for buying engines off the mainland the shipping would be insane, unless the engines are a killer deal wait for some in Hawaii that need to be rebuilt that way you can get the best deal. When people put $$$ into anything they want to make something on the $$$ the invested.
Good Luck and hope everything comes together for you!JB
