i used the curado 300 last year on the albies, YFT and yellows. it preformed flawlessly. if you do hook into a larger model, the 300te will give you more cranking power. with the curado, on some of the bigger tuna i caught this year (30+lb albies) and 25+lb YFT, it was hard to get those last few cranks. but fun as shit!!!! i did a write up w/ pics on one trip. search it it you like.

thanks

Danny

just got out this weekend and got some casts in ( we have had ice over every lake since late december)

Imagine the suprise when the finesse guys trying to get a walleye see me come up and huck a saltwater popper across the inlet and skipping it across the current

handle feels awesome with the bigger paddles. reel felt solid and easy to control. cant wait to get bent in ten days when ill be out in the middle of the gulf!!!!!!!

You got a sick setup. I'm sure you'll slay it this year with it.

calcutta's are great reels and i personaly think they are way over price i own several of them and yet since i bougth my curado's 300e and 200e7 my 300te still siting there on the closeth if you want some thing ligth and u can have lots of funn curado its best .. calcuttas have more drag i agree but its all about figthin the fish and having fun with them you dont need much drag for that ...just my point of view..

I have the 904, 965, and 966 Loomis rods, and would personally go with the 965 for 15-20#. I fish 12-15# on the 904, and 25-30# on the 965. They were made for salmon backbouncing with heavy weights, so they have a super stiff tip, but a very soft middle section. Makes for great cushioning when fishing lighter line for bigger fish. Also shuts off down low so the 8 footers don't work you.

Calcutta 300 TE

The Calcutta 300 TE is a much better reel for landing big fish. Bigger gears, better drags. This is my go to reel for fishing plastics for bass, halibut, tuna, albies, lings,... anything. Caught a few 40-60lb kingie last season in New Zealand on it, that's good enough for me, ya!?

If you are casting all day fishing checkerboards/bass the curado gets my vote. If you are fishing bigger game than the Calcutta is a better bet.

I have 6 TE400s and 6 Curado 300s and have caught 40# class yellowtail with both. The Curado definitely casts spectra better but I would rather have the TE on the bigger fish. We fish kelp beds for bass using 65# spectra and make hundreds of casts per day so I like the Curados. I send them to Shimano for service (I do all my other reels myself) because their flat rate system returns a good as new reel to you. Both are great reels.
