Re: I need a Real Reel for Real Sharks
wow i need to retire my shimino 30 for sharking.
my dad gave me a 50sw penn i guess i need to break in.
never thought about the handle or reel seat as a weak point. all my failures have been leaders or swivels.

Re: I need a Real Reel for Real Sharks
Bill you fish the light gear, because you all always going for records. I know you can land em on the light stuff, but you are an exceptional angler. Most guys don't stand a chance with the light stuff.
In my opinion you are far better off using the heavier gear and being to release the fish clean. So many people break on small gear, when in reality they have no business fishing it. If you have some real skills and someone who can effectively run a boat to chase them, go ahead. otherwise stick with atleast a 30 size reel.

Re: I need a Real Reel for Real Sharks
Tailed hooked one a few years ago on a 9/0 Senator. Damn, sure was wishing that was a 2 speed something or other. Its the only fish I've caught where I wanted to change gears and couldn't.
