Mirage Sportfishing 2 day 06.19 to 06.20.2012 Halibut Slayage

So me and my bro were on our regular 2 day trip for jun-aug. We saw most of the regulars at the landing and it was time to head off to go fish. It was a rough on the way out and we ended up at Santa Cruz island.

We were I believe the only boat there until the full day boats arrived. We would finish most of the white sea bass & halibut slayage before any other boat anchored. The bite was the same way for both days, all nice and early before the rest of the fleet arrived.

My bro got 3 white sea bass and 2 Halibuts. I got 2 white sea bass and 1 halibut. Less than average in general. The luckiest guy (Jose) got 7 halibut and i think 5 white sea bass. He landed 5 halibut the first day alone..pretty awesome.

I'll let the pictures do rest of the talking.

Early Tues halibut from the ups worker.

Vdiggy landing his best white sea bass of the trip @ 25lbs

.
Caught 2 spider crabs and a couple other crab...Strange..This one was a fatso

Our Chefs for the trip Andrew and Cynthia

Decent size halibut coming over the rail @ about 30lbs

Last years august JP winner also winning JP on day one with this nice 40+ halibut.

Jose with his palm out and five fingers..why did you do that jose? Oh because I got 5 Halibut! DANG!!

Jose's cool tacklebox. Maybe this is why he got bit so well.

Another regular with a nice flattie near 30lbs. I believe he caught 4 halibut 4 white sea bass.

Crew posing for an epic 1st day.

Nice sunset

Jackpot winner - 2 halibut for the day.

Dinner - Ribeye and Mash

Next day we started out fishing for more halibut. Was too busy fishing to take pictures while the fish were being landed. So I'll start with pics of when we spend majority of the day Calico fishing.

Cute halibut that a bait squid grabbed and brought up

Quality calico. We would catch nearly 100 of these.

Biggest female sheephead i've ever seen coming in @ 17lbs. Strangest color too...almost all dull black.

Fishing nice and close to the island

Very Scenic

Ryan fishing

end of day 2 picture taking time

Jose with a Jackpot contender 40lb halibut

Gary getting in the mix

My Jackpot contender @ around 40lb

Almost like last years photo shot. Twin Halibut for the Twins.

Jose trying to tell me his halibut is bigger than mine

Not as good as day 1, but we'll take it. I think it was 15 halibut for day 2 with only a couple of white sea bass. Jose had 7 Halibut for the trip.

2nd Capt Jason with his pb halibut ever @ 35+ lbs.

Jackpot goes to lucky number 13

# 13 would be me coming in @ 42lbs. MY Personal BEST EVER!!

Pac dawn hat on the Mirage , representin!

What an unbelievable trip. The kind you hope for every time you go fishing. Except this time it happened. Would i have loved to catch more fish? Sure. But anytime I catch white sea bass & halibut in one trip, its a major success in my book.

As usual the crew and operation are top notch and both jackpot day wins went to the crew. We're on most of the other 2 dayers this year. Its looking like its gonna be an epic year of fishing.

I was on this too....boy can those twins drink some beers....had a great time as always. You really appreciate fishing with this crew when you fish as much as I ahve this year. I have tried other boats but none compares with these guys. I caught my biggest fish ever on this one. It was my first halibut ever.

Love the Mirage! Gotta call and see if I can get on a trip here real soon. Great crew. Andrew is hilarious, but he smells kinda funny. I think he has IBS.

Just clowning on Andrew. He's a great dude. Looking forward to getting out on the Mirage here soon!
