2011 Monthly Bass Contest Rules
Open period: Contest is open from 12:00am on the 1st of the contest month to the last day of the same month ending at 11:59pm.
Anglers: Anglers of any age and location are welcome. Any angler who is not a judge of the Bass Contest is eligible; this includes Sponsors, BD Staff, and BD Moderators. All anglers must have a valid fishing license for the date the fish was caught in the location the fish was caught when applicable. Participants may be asked to provide proof of valid fishing license at any given time.
Boundaries: There are no boundaries, any legally fishable waters are allowed.
Fishing Methods: Artificial baits ONLY. No bait strips allowed. Any and all artificial baits are allowed including (but not limited to) swimbaits, hardbaits, artificial worms, etc. Fishing must be done in a sporting manner with rod and reel. All current DFG rules are in place. NO CHUMMING of any kind allowed. If bait is even on your boat, it will be an automatic DQ.
****This is a CPR (Catch, Photograph, Release) Contest****
All fish are to be released alive back into the body of water after taking the picture(s).
Eligible Species: Calico, Spotted Sand and Barred Sand Bass are eligible, as are Largemouth, Smallmouth, and Spotted Bass. Hybrid Barred Sand/Calico Bass (Sandico) are also eligible. These are the only eligible species. Fish must be a minimum of 12 inches to be submitted.
Judging: Judging will be done by an anonymous panel of fishermen/fisherwomen. Judges will review the month's submissions and determine the big bass for the month based on TOTAL LENGTH OF FISH. In case of a tie, or if they are too close to call, the person who posted his/her bass first gets the win. Don't hold your pictures until the end of the month because someone may beat you just by posting it first. Judges will determine validity of the submission based on many factors. Judges decisions are FINAL.
Submitting an Entry Fish: The contest will be judged on TOTAL LENGTH OF FISH. Place fish onto a flat surface, with a rigid measuring device placed directly above or below the fish with the tip of the measuring device starting at the nose of the fish, mouth closed. (The fish may also be place immediately on top of the measuring device, a la "Tournament Measuring Method"). Homemade and/or modified measuring devices may be grounds for disqualification of a submission. There is NO LIMIT to the amount of entries an angler may submit in a month.
Photo Quality: Photos must clearly show the fish and the inch measurements. Photo must be taken at a straight on angle (90 degrees from fish). No side shots. Submissions must have entire fish in the photo. Photos of poor quality are hard to judge and may not be accepted. Take your time and ensure that you get a good, clear photo of the fish. We encourage you to take multiple pictures; the more pictures you have of the submission, the easier it is to judge correctly.
Disqualification: Photos can be DQ'd if the photo is of poor quality, if ruler measurements are not readable, or if it is believed that the photo has been altered. Photo DQ's only mean the photo isn't of quality to judge confidently, or the fish was not positioned correctly. Photo DQ's do not entirely disqualify you from the contest. There is any number of reasons a photo might not make the cut; make sure your photos are as good as can be. If you submit an altered photo and the judges determine that it has been modified with the intent to cheat the contest, that member will be disqualified from the entire month, and may not be allowed to participate in future events.
Prizes: Winner will be determined after the close of the contest month. Winner will be contacted and prizes will be shipped to them, or if local, delivery/pick-up can be arranged. Please understand that these prizes are given as donations at the cost of the donating person/company. We ask that you respect any delays, temporary or permanent, in the delivery of contest prizes due to personal or company hardship or outstanding circumstances.
Integrity of the Rules: Please respect the integrity of sportfishing and the contest itself. Participants are to appreciate the intentions of the rules, and those who attempt to cheat the rules by intentionally exploiting loopholes may be disqualified from the month and future contests as well.
Disclaimer: By entering the contest you agree to do so knowing that boating, float tubing, kayaking, and fishing in general can be dangerous. You are responsible for your own actions. Participate at your own risk.
Good luck Anglers! Have fun and be safe! Remember we are all friends here, let's keep it straight forward and fun. Go get em!
