This was just on the TV news about an hour ago, so this is all the info I have. Mr. Okamura, the president of Deps Tackle Co., helped with the interview; I did not catch the anglers name.

We are well past the spawning season when most of the giants are caught at Lake Biwa; most of the fish now are quiet slender (after spawn condition). Not this one!

Congrats to the angler on a fine catch.

Lake Biwa shocked the bass world a couple years ago by producing a bass that was well over 18 pounds (The Japan record was caught at Lake Ikehara, and weighted over 19 pounds.).

A 25 lb. bass was caught as by catch in a fisherman's net earlier this year, so many thought it would be just a matter of time before a record size fish was taken from Japan's largest (over 70 miles long) natural lake.

Wow, G-Man, THE world record bass from Japan? How ironic! I can remember when it was big news over there that Fred Arbogast and Lee and Joan Wulff and probably some others I have forgotten (it was a long time ago) had some Florida fry sent over and stocked. And as you know, I fished Biwaco many times from when there were huge numbers of little bass and bigger ones every year. Man, what a lake that is! But I don't think I ever would have imagined that THE record bass would come from it. Wonderful!

And to think, there was a time when the Aiyu farmers wanted to poison the bass to get rid of them! I'm sure glad that didn't happen.

Standing by for more details.

Here's a shot of me and one of my engineers fishing some lake way to hell and gone up in the mountains. It was a long, long drive from Sakai City. The damned boat sank just after this picture was taken and we had to swim for it! That lake also had some big bass in it, even back then.

That's a monster. Any idea what it was caught on? Did you get a girth measurement? Funny how against the scale it just looks big, but when the guy is holding it, it looks huge.

It at least ties the George Perry All Tackle Record. IGFA rules state that to replace a record for fish less than 25 lbs, it needs to weigh at least 2 ounces more than the existing record.

What a catch
