Ensenada 11-29-11 (Pt 2)-Squid

After pulling on rockfish earlier in the day it was now time for a family trip to the squid grounds. We loaded up the "It's 4 Reels" with the wives (Pati and Keith's wife Sylvia) the kids, and Pati's friend Cesi. We started to head out around 6:45PM but after hitting a thick fog bank with no squid or GPS #'s and kids aboard I decided to turn around and head back and wait for the fog to lift and some GPS info. The fog started to thin out around an hour later and I decided to give it another try. After rounding the the breakwall I finally reached some commercial buddies who were out in the area and they gave me the general area. We ran in and out of thick fog to an area outside of Salsipuedes and the first light boat appeared with less than 1/2 mile to the numbers. We circled the light boat and saw my buddies pulling on squid so we stopped the boat dropped the squid jigs down and started getting bit at about the 100 ft. mark. This was the first squid trip for everyone with the exception of Keith and I, and it was fun to watch everyone pulling on the hard fighting squid and the ensuing water and ink sprays that everyone was getting. Pati and her friend Cesi took turns hooking and pulling on the acres of squid that were being targeted by less 10 boats and pangas. Angel did not want to stop catching even after I said we had no room for even 1 more squirt. Sylvia who works with Keith on a commercial fishing boat in Alaska caught her fair share as well. After a little more than hour we had 37 humboldts in the boat and it was time to go. The ride back was more of the same with the exception a little bit of a following sea. A big thank you to Keith, Sylvia and Angel who cleaned all the squid as I was pretty much exhausted after running 2 trips today. The pictures tell the rest of the story and the spots you see are from the thick fog and drizzle that appeared in the flash while taking pics.

Thanks for the report. Nice job. To bad there's no tuna around to feed them to. Your friends Keith and Sylvia are good fisherman and fun to fish with. I shared a boat with them a while back down in SQ. Tell them hello for me..
