mfrancis we did stay there and i personally wouldn't stay there again. The whole place is running on 4 generators and thus they kill the AC from 7am - 7pm so if you get in early from fishing NO AC. It wasn't so bad in the upstairs rooms but the downstairs room were way to hot and thus presented an issue with us keeping our catch on ice. The beach at this spot was excellent and due to the hot room i spent all evenings out in the water which was cool. I believe next year we will stay at the place where the boat launch is. They seemed to have a better handle on the power and can leave the AC on all day. I believe it was called Gerriomos. A few others in our group visited some other places and said they were nice as well. I'll get the info for you when I get in touch with them.

Mike is my brother and we are flying to Los Cabos today. Not sure if he will check BD before he leaves. I'll make sure he gets your info and tell him to check this thread when we get home.

Thanks for the info,
Mark

Hey, Jim -

I read this and it raised a couple of questions.

Who are the "We" and what kind of involvement have "We" engaged in concerning commercial Dorado fishing?

Darnell, we just got back as well, not to thread jack just answering a few of the questions I saw on the this thread. The panga guides do have "backup" lucky joe rigs and the hooks and sinkers 8 oz for sabiki rigs and 12 oz for yellows. However, you are better off bringing your own so you do not deplete their inventory since most of the tackle they get is left with them by fellow anglers. The mackarels we caught for bait are huge right now so make sure your lucky joe's (sabiki rigs) have heavy enough line. Average cost is 180 per day per panga unless you are lucky enough with the wind to head out to the big reef in which case it will be 200. There are a few super pangas in town that cost more but accomodate more people. On a standard panga I would fish no more than 3 people. That place is alive with all kinds of fish right now. We stayed at Larry and Raquels and they prepared all of our meals for us which is nice. Will post a report once I get all the pics from everyone in our group.

We did have a great time and everyone made it back in one piece. All in all an excellent trip.
Sure as hell good enough for me. Now you know.

We all learn something everytime we head south. Welcome to the enigma known as the Baja. It's up to us to keep this adventure treasure chest open.

Your title says it all - BOLA is the greatest place ever. This was your first trip there. It was great because the guys who fished it before you didn't try to clean it out. Do your part to make sure it is a great for the next guy.
A bit harsh on the dude. He is excited and the guide should have told him somthing. I see your point but one dude with 20 fish will not drain the ocean

Thanks for your take Rob. 20 fish are a drop in the bucket, I agree. I don't really even care that he took a few over. I, personally, disagree, with the 2 fish Dodo limit. However, my concern arises from posting pics of big number fish kills. It rubs the lack of enforcement into the very noses of Mexican Fish and Game, and we'll all evenutally pay the price if we don't refrain from posting the results of killer days. A couple of pics of big ones and an action shot ot two works much better for all of us than a hanger full of fish - like it 1955.

It was his first trip down and didn't probably even think twice about being a guest in a foreign country - with rather Draconian seizure policies regarding Fish and Game violations. He was confused about the limit and has educated himself. I, sincerely, hope he and his buddies become BOLA regulars. They learned a lot about where to stay and what to expect on the road and it sounded like they had a hell of time. He also writes a fun report.

I firmly believe we must regulate ourselves or they will come in and regulate it for us. Your mileage may vary.

Darnell, Just got back from East Cape. Great fishing. Caught my first Stripped Marlin with a good release.

Beside power issues, was there any other issues with the accomodations. I don't think I need to worry about AC since Thanksgiving is usually pretty comfortable weather. I'm fortunate to have a friend down there who is taking me fishing. If I was by myself I would stay with him but I've got the wife and 2 boys.

Thanks for the info and glad you enjoyed BOLA. It is a very special place for me.
